Creechur> Would it be safe to say that greed (not freedom) has eliminated morals in your view? The hot-coffee-I’ll-sue example IS insane, I agree. But who made it possible? Is the court-system in the US so easily tweaked to allow for such insanity?
Small interest and minority groups are part of modern societies and globalisation. But I think that what we see today is a back-reaction from centuries (if not longer) of oppressing the same groups. I don’t say it’s right to suddenly swing the other way, and accuse a guy who closes his shop at 6 pm and happens to do so in the face of an African-American a racist. But if you’ve had people yell at you for NO reason for years, I do think you develop a kind of paranoia.
And last I heard the KKK still exists and cleans high-ways in Arkansas.
”In addition, small interests and minority groups think they get some kind of free ride in the US, thanks in part to irresponsible liberals (not ALL liberals, just the money grubbing power hungry ones).” Ah, come on, Cheechur. You and me both know it’s not about political colour when it comes to that.
”Just because your skin isnt white, or your not Christian, or your not hetero does not give you any special rights.”
No, but you shouldn’t be biased against on those terms either. How many groups in the US do you know, who claim that white men are the root of all evil and should be tossed back to Europe?
”You should go through the same pain and make the same sacrifices I have as a white male heterosexual. No one is offering me grants or special priveliges.”
But that – to elimitenate unequality (which still exists) – special grants are made to minority groups are not the FAULT of the minority groups.
”Personal freedom to be an individual has become some perverted right to do whatever we want. Personal responsibility has become crying and whining and getting your feelings hurt over something as trivial as a verbal insult.”
I agree completely. I am not bashing your country, nor do I seek to insult your pride in it, but these problems are not so profound in tiny Denmark. Gays can get married for example.
IS DK heaven on Earth? No way.
But our “personal freedom” has never ventured to a point, where you can sue people over a verbal insult (Now, I don’t know if you’re speaking figuratively or literally here).
“Tell me which country has been seen at Spago, or with its nipples showing. There, I just matched your ridiculous statement with one of my own. Don't you understand the concept of an analogy?”
Well, already at the ”ridicilous” level again, are we? If you’d bothered to read my reply, you’d realise I do indeed understand the concept of analogy – but disagree with what you chose to make an analogy over. Celebrities are harmless pop- and movie-stars and glamour-people.
