First of all it’s rather small… Seriously, though. I like living here, because I know the culture, the language and this is were my friends and family are.
But a human concept as “a country/a nation” can’t be great. Anyone who heils about their country being so and so great are usually blind to the bad things committed by the same country.

I once wanted to settle in the US to complete my Ph.D. Today I’m glad I didn’t, since I’ve been there to visit friends countless times, and I could never live there. If I move anywhere now it’ll be to China… 🙂

horray 4 china, I live here!! 😱

Yeah Texas the worlds largest redneck resort 🤣

Creechur> I thought it impossible… But I agree with you on one thing. That you can’t have freedom without responsibility. If you want rights, you must also have duties.
But how do you think that “think "freedom" has replaced and eliminated "morals" in my country. "Personal freedom" to do whatever the hell we want has replaced "personal responsibility" for the consequences of our actions,” specifically has changed the US?

However I totally disagree on the comparison to celebrities. Or tell me which celebrity has started a war, and caused ruin to a nation.

Hobbit_dude> I almost envy you. (Almost, as I speak only speak 13 words of Chinese). 🙂

Phinney6> How do you know you have more freedom than other countries? How many have you lived in?

I lived in the states for a year, as part of an exchange-student program. I've visited friends there countless times. Some things are great, some are terrible. Currently I think the bad things outweigh the good things, as I have to take everything into account. From the Ameriacn hospitality I've usually encountered, to wars...

The problem with America is the loss of common sence. People in America think with their stomachs or wallets instead of their brains.

"But how do you think that “think "freedom" has replaced and eliminated "morals"

Because a lot of my countrymen are selfish, shortsighted individuals who think that theyre way is the only way. People actually get money for being morons. Spill hot coffee in your lap? Heres a million dollars!!! Smoked for 50 years, but somehow neglected to realize that smoking causes you to die earlier? Heres a BILLION dollars!!!! People don't need to take responsibility for their actions if theres someone to sue.

In addition, small interests and minority groups think they get some kind of free ride in the US, thanks in part to irresponsible liberals (not ALL liberals, just the money grubbing power hungry ones). Just because your skin isnt white, or your not Christian, or your not hetero does not give you any special rights. You should go through the same pain and make the same sacrifices I have as a white male heterosexual. No one is offering me grants or special priveliges. Get over the fact that youre not like everybody else, stop making such a big deal about it, grow the hell up and accept that life is pain, no matter your race creed or color. The struggle is what makes the victories so sweet.

Who's keeping homophopia right up in our faces? The gays, with their constant whining. Who's keeping racism alive and well in our conscious thoughts? Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, and groups like the NAACP. I live in a country where NAMBLA is allowed to exist...and liberals don't think liberalism has gone to far?

Personal freedom to be an individual has become some perverted right to do whatever we want. Personal responsibility has become crying and whining and getting your feelings hurt over somehting as trivial as a verbal insult.

Now that I'm done bashing my country, I must say that these problems exist in other countries as well. Y'all just like to put us under a microscope.

"However I totally disagree on the comparison to celebrities. Or tell me which celebrity has started a war, and caused ruin to a nation."

Tell me which country has been seen at Spago, or with its nipples showing. There, I just matched your ridiculous statement with one of my own. Don't you understand the concept of an analogy?

America is over rated in both respects.

-Is it the greatest country in the world? Probably not, probably pretty much just like most other modern countries. I think it's a fine place to live.

-Is it the most horrific place on earth? The closest thing to hell? Of course not, it's just a piece of land with people living on it. It's perfectly fine.

I really doubt there's all that much difference between living in American and any other major country.

America is a cool place and given the chance to live their I would because as I have said before, it has every possible good BUT it also has every possible evil. A little drastic in my ways calling it the closest thing to Hell on Earth but it is in NOOOOO way the greatest country. No way.

If anything, right now it has more bad than good.

britain is the best country in the world...we have a brilliant history which makes me proud to be british.....a small island like britain has influences so much in the world, we have massive empire around the globe
from winning ww1 and 2
defeatin napolean,
we abolished slavery
we had people like wordsworth, shakespeare and dickens,
we invented the computer...
im pissed of with britain helping a lost cause in iraq...as long as usa and uk are there, nothin is goin to get better..
before world war 2 britain was the biggest country in the world....but cos of twats like hitler we became weak cos of all the fighting and are not as strong as we once was....if it wasnt for world war two then we would still be the most powerful country in the world.......still im proud to be british and as for america...i like americans, they are all sound people but the people who are running it are fast building up a reputation and soon they wont be remebered as a great country at all.....guarenteed
try not to take offence

Creechur> Would it be safe to say that greed (not freedom) has eliminated morals in your view? The hot-coffee-I’ll-sue example IS insane, I agree. But who made it possible? Is the court-system in the US so easily tweaked to allow for such insanity?

Small interest and minority groups are part of modern societies and globalisation. But I think that what we see today is a back-reaction from centuries (if not longer) of oppressing the same groups. I don’t say it’s right to suddenly swing the other way, and accuse a guy who closes his shop at 6 pm and happens to do so in the face of an African-American a racist. But if you’ve had people yell at you for NO reason for years, I do think you develop a kind of paranoia.
And last I heard the KKK still exists and cleans high-ways in Arkansas.

”In addition, small interests and minority groups think they get some kind of free ride in the US, thanks in part to irresponsible liberals (not ALL liberals, just the money grubbing power hungry ones).” Ah, come on, Cheechur. You and me both know it’s not about political colour when it comes to that.

”Just because your skin isnt white, or your not Christian, or your not hetero does not give you any special rights.”
No, but you shouldn’t be biased against on those terms either. How many groups in the US do you know, who claim that white men are the root of all evil and should be tossed back to Europe?

”You should go through the same pain and make the same sacrifices I have as a white male heterosexual. No one is offering me grants or special priveliges.”
But that – to elimitenate unequality (which still exists) – special grants are made to minority groups are not the FAULT of the minority groups.

”Personal freedom to be an individual has become some perverted right to do whatever we want. Personal responsibility has become crying and whining and getting your feelings hurt over something as trivial as a verbal insult.”
I agree completely. I am not bashing your country, nor do I seek to insult your pride in it, but these problems are not so profound in tiny Denmark. Gays can get married for example.
IS DK heaven on Earth? No way.
But our “personal freedom” has never ventured to a point, where you can sue people over a verbal insult (Now, I don’t know if you’re speaking figuratively or literally here).

“Tell me which country has been seen at Spago, or with its nipples showing. There, I just matched your ridiculous statement with one of my own. Don't you understand the concept of an analogy?”

Well, already at the ”ridicilous” level again, are we? If you’d bothered to read my reply, you’d realise I do indeed understand the concept of analogy – but disagree with what you chose to make an analogy over. Celebrities are harmless pop- and movie-stars and glamour-people.

Dean> Ehrm… brilliant history? Conquest of India (cough)… Opium Wars in China…

America the Great? Ummm....too extreme to say that. I personally I'm glad that I live in America. Is a country I don't have any fear of political retaliations. My Parents came from Central America as refugees and they were given permittion to work. My dad was fortunate to receive residency to work. After a few years he became a citizen then mother became a resident. So I'm kinda grateful that the US government gave my father a chance to live in and work. I seriously doubt that same opportunity coulda happen to my dad back in Central America.

One thing I love the most is freedom! I don't have to obey a president or listen to some dictator or even bow down to godamn King or whatever! I do what I want (as long as I don't break any laws) I go to school and learn things I wouldn't learn in some dictatorship country. I love to drive my Chevy Nova on the big freeways, and visit the beach or desert or even the mountains. I like it here. America Is not some fantasy dream land, but is a place I could go anywhere (except military bases). I like the USA just like I like Mexico or Canada or any other of the countries I have visited.

I don't wear clothes with the american flag. I don't burn the American flag to promote my views. I vote and I support independents. I not interested in Democrats or Republicans. I'm only interested on a person that keeps order and progress for the US. American Politics are important to me, but I'm not going to dedicate my life 24/7 to promote anti war or support the president. I got better things to do than to be stuck to a tv set watching the news.

I like American Sports! Baseball and Football are favorites! I like to cheer and shout for my favorite team on sunday! I like to celebrate a victory with a few beers and cheer with my friends at the stadium. Before the game starts everyone has to stand up and sing the national anthem.....I don't have a problem with that. I sing it and then I get ready to watch the game.

For me US is a cool place to live. I'm happy here, and I'm sure there are other lovely places in the world. But for now I'm here and I'm staying put......unless I have to travel and meet other people. 😄

every country has its good and its bad things.

errr....victorys in ww1 and ww2, 100 british men defeated 4000 zulus at the battle of rawkes drift....
best trained army in the world
best navy(rule brittania, brittania rules the waves)
greatest empire the world as eva seen
we ruled over a vast empire that was the biggest the world had ever seen.(we ruled more than half the people in the world)
what language do u speak???
plus if i was an historian i could probably go hundreds of years further back in time and tell u more a bout great britain
so please dont say we aint got a great and proud history

“We shall go on to the end. We shall fight in France, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; AND WE SHALL NEVER SURRENDER.” - Winston churchil - 1940

BRITAIN RULES BABY!!

Spain had the best army thats why Britian avoided land conflict with them 😛

Spains exploits opened the door for britian 😛
Englands empire lasted 300+ years Rome... 1200+

The US court system is deplorable. I'm personally ashamed of it. There is no justice, just drawn out BS and monetary rewards.

"And last I heard the KKK still exists and cleans high-ways in Arkansas."

I consider the NAACP just as hateful and racist as the KKK.

”In addition, small interests and minority groups think they get some kind of free ride in the US, thanks in part to irresponsible liberals (not ALL liberals, just the money grubbing power hungry ones).” Ah, come on, Cheechur. You and me both know it’s not about political colour when it comes to that."

I'm not sure what you mean by political color, but the libs definitely use small interest groups to strengthen their "we're so equal, look how we pander to minorities" attitude, all the while keeping those minorities down by basically saying "youre not good enough. Without our help you could do nothing, you pathetic minorities." Don't you see the hypocrisy?

"special grants are made to minority groups are not the FAULT of the minority groups"

They don't have to take the grants. I wouldn't take a grant based on my skin color or nationality because I have MORALS.

"But our “personal freedom” has never ventured to a point, where you can sue people over a verbal insult (Now, I don’t know if you’re speaking figuratively or literally here)."

I mean that literally. Look at how bad the dems took it when Arnold called them girlie-men. They were wetting their panties for days over a silly remark. You call someone a ****** or something in this country and you'll get sued. Granted, that is a pretty ugly word, but its just a word.

Finally, I stand by my analogy. I'm not the only one who thought it was quite fitting.

It makes more than conquests and power to have a great history

"100 british men defeated 4000 zulus at the battle of rawkes drift"

that's nothing to be proud of.

the zulus had spears for god sake and brits had musket.
