Original 1997 SE VHS -- Question!

As many know, the DVDs are coming out in September. Gold is fullscreen, and silver is widescreen. I bought the trilogy when the SE's were first released in 1998 on VHS... my set is gold. I was probably 9 years old, and can't remember... was there a silver set of this as well? Was there ever a widescreen version of the SE on VHS at first release? Please, someone know 🙁
