Why does everybody think Batman prefers classical music or opera ?

Because he's rich and sophisticated, and people tend to associate classical music and opera with those qualities.

Personally, I'm not convinced that Batman bothers to listen to any sort of music at all. Although he goes to a Jazz bar (recreationally) in a Legends of the Dark Knight miniseries (Batman: Jazz; check it out, it's pretty good).
