What's this forum like with dialup ?
I ask this question as I just got broadband last week and I have only spent a short time here with dialup.
You see, I have never seen a forum like this before that has so many fantastic siggies. These siggy-piccies are beautiful and all that, but they must make the forum server run much slower by their bandwidth-sapping size I would think.
OK...the smartypants's here will say that the servers can handle that stuff effortlessly, but I bet that the pages here are very slow to download if you only have dialup at 56kbs.
Anybody ?

Dude:
If the pages download very slow when you're on dial-up, then it's not the web server, it's your slow-ass connection via dial-up.
You're on broadband, right? The real way to know when the server is overloaded (or just slow all by itself) is to notice the download speed when you are on broadband. If it's fast, then the servers do indeed handle the load effortlessly. If it's slow, then the servers are bogged down, or just slow.
I have a 3 megabit download speed via DSL. I never have a problem bringing up pages on this forum. Their servers are very fast and powerful.
Now if I was on dial-up, I'd probably think "Damn those pesky siggies and avatars! Their bogging down the effing servers!" But it wouldn't be the servers at all, it would be my connection.

That should have been "They're" instead of "their".

Yeah....I had already sussed that, I just wanted to know if the large siggies made all that much difference !
Anyway... with 576,000 bps rather than 44kbs ( which was my usual connection speed with dialup ), this forum just flies. I am really happy with more than 10X dialup.
BUT.....3 MEGABITS
That's just showin off !
Oh yes...and... for those that like to clear out their TIF cache there is a programme called Widow Washer that will do it automatically, overwrite any nasty stuff AND leave selected cookies alone if you wish.
