Don' t be a Candle

It basically means "Think from your position".
When a candle is lighted, there is shadow at its bottom. You can't see your feet, your root and what you are standing on.

It came from a debate between a king and a monk.
The king had so high ambition that he did not care for his people. He only went forward.
One day, a monk came to visit the king at night and lighted a candle.
After some staring, the monk said "Don't be a candle".

Just an observation. A candle while burning melts the wax. The melting wax once cooled causes the candle to get stuck. Once the candle is stuck.....it eventually burns and melts and the light fades into darkness.

I kinda see the point of your metaphor Storm. I just took it another way.
