New trailer

I loved the trailer ... really good !

As far as I'm concerned ...

1. You can't object to Yoda using a levitation device to get around ... he is the supreme jedi master ... and he happens to be a lot shorter than everyone else ... so it's a question of convienience. In fact I think it's a nice touch ... if u were yoda the supreme jedi master, and u happened to be really short, you'd use some sort of a transport to get around !
The argument that he got around Dagobah without transport, so why should he need any kind of special transport on Coruscant doesn't hold water ... in Dagobah Yoda didn't really have a choice ... the jedi order had been almost totally destroyed, and Yoda was basically languishing alone on that planet.

2. Yoda's look in the movie is also cool ... it's no question .., with 21st century film making techniques, he looks much more "real" than the way he appeared in the OT ... there is no comparison.

3. The script also reads great ... the scene with anakin and palpatine alone was really cool ... the cunning of the sith lord is coming out beautifully. Also Anakin ... I had just posted a thread in which I voiced my reservation with the fact that Anakin, before his fall, was a pretty brilliant and exceptional jedi, and that this might not come out enough ... but I think it will be highlighted to at least to a certain degree ... the coruscant chase is something to really look forward to ... and Anakin's brilliance and uncommon boldness comes out in that part of the trailer, especially when he jumps out of the speeder ... and the thing is, he knows he's good ! ... and he's a bit cocky about it ... but you LIKE that ... at least I enjoyed anakin's cockiness because of his own abilites. And I could go on ...
but the script seems to have shaped up really well ... Christopher Lee : " Join me Obi Wan ... together we can destroy the sith ! "
that line is so tantalizing ... thus far from the spoilers, we have only known Count Dooku to be the next sith bad guy ... but this line makes it slightly more complex, and Count Dooku a lot more cunning !

4. I don't see why there should be an objection to Obi Wan's fear of flying ... the scene where he said he doesn't like to fly, was the coruscant chase scene ... and I think u have to take his words in that context ... it would be wrong to say that this is out of Obi Wan's character and an anomaly, because he did fly in TPM and ANH ... simply because those flights included normal interplanetary travel ... the coruscant scene involves a dangerous rough ride through the skies of a planet that are crowded with flying vehicles. So Obi Wan meant it in that context ... he didn't like to get in to dangerous chase sequences ... sort of like, u could drive to work everyday, but u would hate to get into a cops and robbers type dangerous chase situation on the road ...
and u might mention that you hate driving ... but you would mean it in that particular context.
so similarly you can't compare the coruscant chase sequence ( in which obi wan mentioned his dislike of flying) to ordinary space travel from one planet to another ...
so i can't agree with king jedi that this is a gratiuitous attempt to build up obi wan's character.

Overall I was highly impressed with the trailer and I have high hopes for the movie based on that ... and I can be fairly critical if I want to be ... but I really couldn't think of anything majorly wrong with it at all !

I look forward to AOTC, with great enthusiasm now that I've seen this trailer ... I think it will turn out to be a really cool, kick ass star wars movie !

I wouldn't have put it in quite those terms, but yes, the movie looks very good

Well, in Coruscant, is ani who says that OB1 hates to fly, and then OB1 himself says that he hates to fly in the asteroid field chase against Jang's Slave (1?)... But it is too a dangerous ride, so your point, Harmax, is still sustained!

BTW, OB1 always travel as a passenger (TPM: Republic cruiser and Royal Nubian, and ANH, Millenium) and then, his spirit flyes free, but it isn't dangerous anymore...

Maybe 3PO inherited his hate for space travel from OB1.

C3PO disliked space travelling before he met Obi-wan, in TPM.
''They'l never get me onto one of those dreadful starships.''

c3po disliked it even before he had been on a journey in space

that's because R2 told him something... possible the getting away from Naboo part

R2 probably only told 3PO the journey.....3PO tends to be dramatic anyway 🙄

I saw it today on the big screen with Ice Age.

I had hoped they would play it really loud, but they didn't.

because it's a trailer, not a movie

3PO is a translator, fluent in languages; he doesn't figure things out, how all the pieces fit, what the pieces are, so he's full of tidbits of info, but totally clueless as to how to figure it all out

Now, I am reading people starting to bash the film because the CGI didn't look real!

I agree it does seem too outworld-ish, and those flying geonosians feels like a character NOT from earth, but from a fake world, a computer game you may say!

Think about this, PLEASE! Isn't it because THE fact these characters Really DO NOT EXIST, and they ARE born on Computers?

No, He-Man, it's not. You don't understand. It is perfectly possible to make CGI images look real - like photos. Wether the CGI character/creature/object actually exists is not important. It has to do with light and shadows (mainly), and you can't convince me that the fundamental properties of light are different anywhere else in the universe - even in a galaxy far, far away.

And, I ask you this, how do you tell if a CGI character looks real or fake? Have you ever seen them face to face, huh? NO! I don't think you have, thus you can't say they look fake.

I'll tell you how I can see it: The light that falls on one part of the character doesn't illuminate other parts of the character the way one would expect. This is mostly noticed on a subconscious level, of course, and is only manifested as a feeling that something "looks wrong". There are other things too, such as how strains of hair flows, how the details in skin is rendered, etc.

For instance, all materials, except for metals, are transparent to some degree. And light will shine through. Organic materials - skin - very much so. Hold a flashlight under your finger, and you will see what I mean. When CGI characters are created without taking this into account, they look lifeless...dead. And not real.

There are other factors too, these are just some examples. And most of the time, at least with CGI above a certain quality level, I can't even put my finger on what the problem is at all. I just notice that something is wrong.

The bottom line is this: It's not how the CGI objects are modelled, but how they are rendered. I don't really blame the modellers, but the rendering software they use.

You CAN say, however, these CGI were terrible.... but I ask you to back it up.

It's not terrible. It's good. It's just not great.

Personally, I think the CGI I saw look spetacular. It was the MOST UNBELIEVABLE CGI work I've EVER SEEN (In a GOOD WAY)!!

Yes, and I guess most people will think that. So I suppose it is good enough. I'm just a bit more picky about these things than most, because I work in the field, and 3D CGI it's one of my major interests.

However, as a avid Gamer. I can tell you, NO games today look as good as the CGI from the trailer you just saw!

Of course not, and I can't imagine anyone saying that. You must have misunderstood someone.

What I've seen so far...The cgi is better than any other movie. 🙂

It probably is 😉

.

Hey, vi, why don't you post or attach some examples with your work?, so all here can see what you mean about realism and enlighted scenes!!!

For me, the shot on the temple (?) with the flying yoda has wrong illumination (the characters are less clear than the background), but I still believe that the movie will be OK.

(Or maybe i'll get job on EP3!!!)

hmmm, no response.. i think that your fingers where faster than your hability...

lol

Sorry for not replying for so long, but my visits to these forums are infrequent, at best.

You seem to suggest that I've made any claims to the quality of my own work, which I obviously haven't. However, I am getting somewhat experienced in judging other 3D work.

Though I don't see the relevance, you are welcome to look at some pics I've made, on this old and unmaintained site. And I've made the lightsaber pic in my signature, of course. But again, I'm not saying this is very good or anything.

yeah, I thought your sig was cool. 😎
