the thing im confused about is why there are closed forums before they even started?

The reasoning is simple; the Welcome area is not an extension of the GDF. The only threads that are allowed here are those that introduce new posters to the forums; if it gets more complex than that it obscures the point of a welcome area at all and it may as well only be part of the GDF.

As a general rule I consider people sufficiently introduced after 100 posts in their thread; a thread also gets shut down if the originator is no long contributing.

I think I let threads run on too long as it is...
