One of the things I would have wished for myself if I could would have been the ability to be a Polyglot ! ( If you don't know what that is, it is the ability to learn many languages easily to fluency ).
As I did a technical stream at school I was unable to learn any languages, ( even although most children that learn "foreign" languages in British schools forget them again soon afterwards ).
After I left school I started to study German by my self unt jetzt Ich habe etwas Deutsche-sprechen, ( yes I am a poor speller in German too ).
Most British and English-speaking people are arrogent about their language and because of this arrogance they expect everybody to speak English when they go abroad. The trouble is that they can, usually and that makes us even more lazy.
It is natural for people in Europe to talk the languages that are all around them but that damned wet-bit they call Le-manche stops the Brits from needing to learn other languages.
Mind you...I live in Scotland but I don't speak Gaelic ! 😑
