I watched the Smurfs for a long time, but they eventually started pissing me off. Every week, Gargamel would kidnap Smurfette and keep her in a cage while he ominously stirred a pot. Azreal would try to kill Smurfette, but Gargamel would kick him in the ass. Jokey would give somebody an exploding present, Brainy would act like a snob, and Papa and Handy would eventually lead an expedition to rescue Smurfette.
It was the same with all of my favorites, in fact. After several years, it started dawning on me that all of the Scooby-Doo adventures were exactly the same. Even the Looney Tunes and MGM shorts from the 50s lost their sparkle after two or three hundred viewings (Roadrunner outsmarts Wile E. Coyote, Tweety outsmarts Sylvester, Jerry outsmarts Tom, Bugs outsmarts Sam, Elmer and/or Daffy).
