No Tolkien hated Industrialisation... in fact one of the main themes of LOTR was the destruction of the natural world (Ents, forests, Elves and so on) by industry (Saruman, Isengard...) so basically the Ents represent the old natural world.
I think its safe to say Tolkien wasn't a big hippie fan, all that smoking dope and free love and stuff, he was a Professer after all.
