Oh yeah...do you think tolkien was incorporating hippies into his story?

No Tolkien hated Industrialisation... in fact one of the main themes of LOTR was the destruction of the natural world (Ents, forests, Elves and so on) by industry (Saruman, Isengard...) so basically the Ents represent the old natural world.

I think its safe to say Tolkien wasn't a big hippie fan, all that smoking dope and free love and stuff, he was a Professer after all.

I'll try, I'm sure I'll get over it one day. 😄

Ah, yes, MacBeth, the attacking forest, how could I forget. That was pretty cool. MacBeth got screwed over by trees and so did Sauroman

Wow... AE spelt Saruman wrong... Looks like he was thinking bout Sauron... And I just had to point it out... 😮

Sorry to be annoying, but posts like that belong to Tig Party, not to a discussion thread, especially not as doubleposts 😬 cry

I personally quite like the story of the creation of the ents in the Silmarillion when Yavanna is worrying that her trees might be defenseless and so asks Ilúvatar for help ..

Long in the growing, swift in the felling,
And unless they pay toll with fruit upon the bough
little mourned in the ending
As even among the Valar I have seen

It's somehow cute when afterwards the trees... awake...
And some sang to Eru
Amid the wind
And the rain
And the glitter of the Sun...

😊

im sorry ...
