but the best film villain is Commodus in Gladiator

Darth Vader for sure. Even his breathing is such a recognizable trademark!

A few as they spring to mind:

The Joker from the animated Batman movies: amusing.

The T-1000 from T2 - great concept and character.

O'Brian from the film 1984: I love the book.

Agent Smith from the ORIGINAL Matrix; he gets rather camp in the sequels. I especially liked the way he slags off mankind in general.

The Witch King in LOTR, attractive as I hoped.

Ones I loathed as I suppose is the idea for villains:
Freddy Kruegar, he should have been destroyed from conception.

The cuckoos in Village of the Damned (ditto)

Hannibal Lecter - why aren't all psychopaths simply put to death?

sauron in lotr i know he didnt really apear as villan most of the time just an eye - im talking about in the prelude in fellowship, when he just blsted all the soldiers away, that was deadly

Just watched Farenheight 9/11. GW Bush was portrayed as quite the villian in that movie.

My favorite "villain" is Michael Douglas, hands down, in Falling Down. In fact, I like the character D-FENS so much that I myself don't consider him a "bad guy" at all.

1. darth vader - the epitome of evil; evil incarnate.
2. the name fails me at the moment, but the main character from A Clockwork Orange is EVIL, in a scary realistic way.
