As to the debate - It's a dairy product - so it's a cake. Can you imagine calling a meat pie a cake? no - but can you imagine a cheese pie? yes. therefore it's..um... where was I? Crap... hang on..

Yes it's made more like a pie - but to define "pie" you have to go back to old french or latin - and we discover that it was anything with a pastry crust or a layer cake!!!
So even PIES can be cakes!
Cake on the other hand is an old Norse word - and it's original meaning was compacted layers, these days - layers of sweet baked goodness : but still applicable to any layered substance (ie Caked with mud...) So although you have a Pie base - it's Caked with cheesey goodness - so therefore a cake.
Cake. Not pie. Cake.
