If a movie studio doesn't make enough money they can be forced to sell their company. If a film does poorly it will most likely not get a sequel made.

In some rare cases yes. Example: Resident Evil

But not with big budget films.

Yeah but Star Wars always makes enough to make their money back and some good profit which is why they have had so many sequels. Big budget films that do poorly almost never get a sequel. Examples: King Arthur, Catwoman, Thundebirds, The Adventures Of Pluto Nash, etc.

King Arthur Prequel maybe. Anyway the others might get a straight to home video sequel release at the most.
