When did the FDA become a pharmaceutical company? 😑
But the fact is that there is no concrete or even solid scientific proof that its unsafe. Other wise the FDA would have banned it ages ago.
From the BBC page its only harmful to people with PKU:
There is one group of people at risk. This is people with a rare inherited condition known as Phenylketonuria or PKU, who are unable to metabolise phenylalanine and must watch their diet carefully.Despite the lack of evidence, a number of people, including some with epilepsy, still swear blind that the sweetener affects their health. If you aren't reassured by the experts' views that aspartame is safe then the best answer is to try eliminating it from your diet and see if your health, or epilepsy, improves.
I'm talking artificial sweeteners in general, some are banned in the states and Canada, I don't know about the Uk for that.
And the NutraSweet people make alot of money, the risk of banning this would be really great, I mean then all the diet drinks and stuff would go, they would lose millions upon millions.
Not to mention that people working for the FDA have in fact spoken out about aspartame.
And the FDA had approved others before, than after seeing the side effects was forced to ban them, I'm simply saying that I wouldn't consume them without a concrete reason, or advice from a physician.
