if he was XANA, why would he bother always telling the others when there's an activated tower and help them eliminate it?

Becuse he wants to gain they're trust.

he did that a long time ago. and wouldn't helping them be very detrimental to his purposes? if he never told them about the towers, they could never deactivate them. and he doesn't have to do all that virtualization stuff for them either
