I dont know about him not possessing the strength in all cases. Colossus maybe, but Red's tentacles? Theyre only about 2 1/2 inches in diameter and Wolvie cant cut them. Caps shield is only an inch thick. Maybe 2 inches. Its resistant to penetration, so i dont think strength maters much.
In most cases, i dont think strength plays a factor at all imo.
Especially considering Colossus may be metal on the inside as well.
At 9:30pm I made a comment "wolverine would beat colossus in a fight" to which my "comic-guru" friend replied pfft there is no way." instead of arguing continuesly we decided to consullt the internet. We then were led to this forum. After reading the whole forum in a bout an hour or so, I feel very informed.
Let me start with my friends orginal arguement as to why colossus wins.
Wolverine does not have the required strenth to generate a sufficient blow to penetrate Colosus' bio-organic steel skin. This sounded plausible to me.
One thing that kinda pisses me off is that this is a hypathetical situation that NO-ONE gave specifics to. So I am going to do that so its would be simpler to deduce who would win.
TERRAIN
So the only way to make it a fare unbiased fight would be to have them battle in a smooth(not slippery) unalterable terrain. What I mean is colossus can not tear chucks of the ground away(which is his best thing for this fight), and wolverine has no trees or city buildings or anything to go stealth around(which is his best thing to do for this fight).
HYPATHETICAL FIGHT
Wolverine and Colossus are standing 50 feet from each other, they are the only two things visable. Obviousely we assume that they are both fighting at THERE best potential. Explanation; niether of them are being mind controlled and they are both fighting to the death.(there is no need to explain why they re fighting to the death because it is a hypathetical situation)They are both facing each other and fully aware of each others presense. So what happens next? They both charge at each other, why? because its the farest way to determine a winner, also there is NO other means of fighting no strategy other than dont get hit while hitting your opponent.
So Colossus has a longer reach, both are fast but wolverine is faster(marginaly) and he is more agile(mildly). In other words first strike barely misses or glancing blows wolverine. Wolverines claws hit colossus in the neck, to be fare they do puncture(barely, think of his thickness in skin when metal) his bio-organic skin is thick enough to withstand the puncture and return an attack. A downward thrust knocks wolverine to the ground. Wolverine (again to be fare) is knocked into a half daze, (still awake) giving colossus just enough time to deliver an upwards knee to the chest/chin area. Sending Wolverine flying anywhere from a 30 to 80 degree angle forward from colossus. The wound in colosus' neck is not enough tto stop him but mearly enough to slow him down. Instantly after air Wolverine is airborn Colossus runs towards Wolverines point of impact. From here the rest is simple Colosus continues to stomp of wolverines head/neck untill he is pudding, this would take not that long. He then continues to smush the rest of wolverines body into mush. He then EATS the mush, after cooking it, and now wolverine can regen no more. Read the following post for the facts and quotes that prove what I have said and give evidence to what I have said.
The fact of the matter is this is all hypathetical and I have outlaid the fight as best and as fare as I can see it looking at all the old faded books and official information on my lap.
FACTS
Wolverine has an Admantium skull and there fore would be more susceptable to brain damage/becoming unconscience. In other words his skull is harder than a normal bone skull so his brain would be hurt more by smashing around in his head. Now Wolverine has regenrative abilities off the charts, so he would regenrate from any type of brain damage faster than a normal human. So he takes more damage when his brain gets knocked around, but he regens instantly(not to full just that he starts regening instantly) when taking damge. Kinda equals itself out. Proof of this is that wolverine gets knocked out enough to be able to remark at that fact.

Keeping in mind that these stats were published circa 1986. Now with all due respect this seems like the perfect era to pull ones resources from due to the fact that its what most of us were rememebring. New age aside I have laid everything out for you all to make your own decision, however the results seem to be pretty clear to me.
Colossus wins, assuming all "dice rolls" are rolled evenly at all times this is a metafore and it means in a fair fight with no critical hits or misses. Wolverine did stand a chance and it was not a hands down fight, that does not change what the outcome would be.
On a side note Wolverine is by far my favorite character of marvel
if anyone has information or stats pertainting to the D-20 system that would be a whole different side of the arguement however, I assume it would turn out much the same.

yeah but colossus could punch wolvie into the next town! Its a mismatch in strength. The claws could cut the steel yes but ,the strength difference levels them up. Dont underestimate the big russky's speed either, he's got faster than human reactions when in steel form.
Well he should. If you're 300 times the strength of a normal man, you should be able to move your muscles almost proportionately as well.......
Colossus destroys Wolverine with one punch to gut.....
Wolverine has been known to hold his own against the heavyweights. But mostly because of his claws. Colossus' hide is the most durable out of any hero and that's where Colossus will excel. Wolverines claws are pretty much useless against Colossus.
After a pretty long fight when Wolverines healing factor starts to have trouble keeping up Colossus will finish him off.
I am SO sick of Wolverine fanboys claiming that he can take out Colossus. Wolverines offensive capabilites consist of only ONE thing: Cutting things apart. Stop deluding yourselves. Wolverine CANNOT cut through Colussus. YES, adamantium is strong enough to pierce Colossus' body. But that's NOT the issue!! Hell, even normal ol throwing stars are capable of piercing Colussus and they have. The REASON however is because Riptide lets them loose with that much force. He practically made a pin cushion out of Colussus (which I might add didn't even slow him down becuase Colossus then proceded to kill Riptide with ease and was still roaring to go. This put and end to that argument earlier about Wolverine causing Colossus so much pain by slashing at him that Colossus succumbs). As stated here time and time again, Wolverine CANNOT produce that kind of force. Since Wolverine is unable to cut through Colussus, he has NO hope of winning.
As for Wolverine cutting through Hulk and the Thing, Colussis is more durable than them. This is proved by a scan posted my snoopdogg of the Secret Wars where everyone was seriously damaged (including those two) but Colossus was the one with the least damage. And this was (correct me if I'm wrong) BEFORE Colossus got augmented by Magneto. He is even MORE durable now which can be proven by the fact that Riptide's throwing stars no longer have any effect on him.
But all of this is really unecessary. Snoopdog already proved what happens when Wolverine uses his claws on Colossus by the scans he put up in this thread. Just look at the pictures d@mn it!! Wolverine puts some scratches on him at best. For those of you with selective hearing/reading, ill say it once again to make sure you don't miss this. Ready? JUST LOOK AT THE PICTURES D@MN IT!! WOLVERINE PUTS SOME SCRATCHES ON HIM AT BEST. Unless anyone can post scans of Wolverine actually cutting through Colossus, it is NOT possible. Live with it! End of story.
The way I see it, here's how the fight would go. It start of like any ordinary scuffle but soon enough, when Wolverine takes a right slay at Colossus, he catches Wolverines wrist with his left hand. Naturalluy Wolverine then uses his free left had to attack Colossus. Predicting this, Colossus easily grabs Wolverine's left wrist with his right hand. He then lifts Wolverine off the ground and it looks like hes practically going to pull Wolverine arms off (I said looks like, not he does). Unable to break free of Colossus' grasp Wolverine is now in trouble. Colossus then gives Wolverine a flury of headbutts and knees to the gut until Wolverine is out of commission. Maybe he followed up by then dropping him and pounding his skull a few time with his Class 100 fists just for good messure. The whole battle takes maybe two or three minutes.
No long fight here. Wolverine can't cut through Colossus's armored form. Not in 616 not in Ultimate universe. Colossus would pimp slap him. Okay Wolverine fought some heavyweights. But. Colossus got experience, some fighting skills, he is nearly the most agile powerhouse and he got the durability. Let's be serious. Colossus lends 2-3 full power punches on Wolvie and he is K.O....Yeah, yeah...Fanboys keep 'em coming. "if he can hit him" Trust me he can hit him.
Colossus...why?
1) Wolvie doesnt have the strength to pierce Colossus' skin let alone drive it deep into his entrails to do significant damage.
2) Colossus is a good fighter albeit no where near Wolvie's level, he has tools.
3) One punch K.O. power.
4) Kinda speedy for a big guy eh?
Wolvie can do all the kung fu he wants, but in the end the dude that can survive bombs, never tires, lifts buildings, and tans on the sun's surface is gonna win.
I'm not saying that Wolverine could win, or anything, but couldnt he "Snikt" his claws in to Colossus? I mean, it was stated in some X-men comic (First one with Cassandra in it) how fast he could retract them.
Though I'm not even sure that would be lethal to Colossus either.
I'd love to know how much force you'd have to apply in order to pierce Colossus' skin with Wolverine's claws.
