Reckless Leia

After watching New Hope on DVD, it seemed so reckless for Leia -- knowing that she was being followed -- to fly directly to Yavin where the Death Star could destroy the rebellion with one shot! I thought that this was an incredible gamble she took. I could imagine the rebels wailing, "You just signed our death warrants! Death Star will be here in thirty minutes, and you think we can come up with a plan to destroy it?"

Not harping on Leia, but it makes me wonder if she was playing with a full deck.

Solo was flying however, and he believed they weren't being tracked so you could say he overrode her decision, but yes it was a bit silly

overrode? she could have gone to a different planet first, then switched ships ....

Yer, but i can't imagine Solo agreeing to that

bribe him with an even bigger reward 😉

its a hole in logic.
it just happens in SW.
leia could have switched ships,
and the deathstar would not have been able to follow.
but then where would be the dire sence of urgency
at the end, where luke blows up the death star JUST in time.

exactly. a little bit of film is suspension of belief... unless of course your TRYING not to have fun. But I don't think ANYONE here would be like that...would they PVS? We've never seen anyone trying to ruin the fun have we? 😉

OH NEVER!!! 🙄

Perhaps she couldn't override Han; after all, he is the CAPTAIN of his own ship. When Leia tells Han that they're tracking his ship, Han says, "Not this ship, sister." She walks away in disgust. Perhaps it was Han's fault. Perhaps he was evil and just wanted the reward, never mind the stupid rebellion. Fly to Yavin, get reward, and Yavin is pulverized. Who cares?

That would mean that the future film has to be edited with more dialogue in the Falcon to take this edge off Solo. "Not this ship, sister, although I do care about your rebellion. I'm sure you can survive or evacuate or something." That would be the sanitized Solo that GL has been aiming for. I'm sure Han's mouth could move in a film loop to add that dialogue in the special, special edition.

I imagine he'd make it worse than that.

"Not this ship, ma'am, I love peace and freedom and rebellion *steps on twig*"

i really, really, REALLY doubt, that even lucas would have them say that

Yeah, can we say... uber corny and unneeded? 🤨

Like Greedo shooting first? Or perhaps Jar Jar Binks?
