American spelling seems to make more sense.

"Colour". The way us Americans say it, there is no "U" sound in the word. I don't know if there is with other pronunciations.

"Centre". The "E" sound comes before the "R" sound, so it makes sense that the "E" is before the "R"

"Catalog". There is no "UE" sound to the word, thus our way makes sense.
