amidala: one question:

I always thought palpatine was playing 2 parts:

1) as a chancellor: he is in command of the republic, when separatists try to break away from the republic and fight against it he gets emergency powers (that allow him to be kind of a dictator) to command a war against the separatists.

2) as a (the highest) sith lord Darth Sidous: has his apprentice to do his job :darth tyrannus. Darth tyrannus being head of the separatists movement with the name of COUNT DOOKU he organices the separatists to go to war against the republic (i always thought the separatists aint sith lords, they ARE against the republic they wanna defeat the republic for their own reasons not sidious reasons, they believe in count dooku they DONT know about sidious plans....but u Amidala say this is wrong why???)...; and on the other part Darth Tyrannus commands jango fett a bounty hunter to go to kamino and donate his cells to create a clone war.

actually palpatine plays a third part:

3) as a fake "head of the Jedi Council" Sido-dyas : who commands the kamino people to create a clone army secretly from the republic and other jedis taking jango´s cells.
this ready-to-war clone army will be usefull to start his very well planed WAR right on time. remember the clones fight side to side with the jedis.
(the separatists use all kinds of droids)

so my question remains:

DON´T THE SEPARATISTS ARE WAR FOR THEIR OWN REASONS??? AREN´T THEY ALSO USED BY DOOKU/TYRANNUS???

remember the separatists are against the republic..against palpatine and they aint sith lords, they dont know about palpatine planning everything..do they?

The seperatist thingis a diversion and a plot to create an open conflict involving the jedis. Also to create emergency powers to the Chancellor. The Jedis are occupied with this conflict that will escalete into the Clone Wars, by being occupied the Jedis cant concentrate on the real treath the Siths. The numbers of jedi`s are also decreasing by this conflict. In other words Palpy is getting rid of an obsticle, the jedi`s, to his major plan. An All totallyterian dictatorship

Nah, still not entirely convinced what the point of it is. But I believe we still lack the whole story there; I'll still wait for the film!

Though if people still want to explain it, if anyone can give me a crystal clear explanation about what any side would have achieved had the attempt been successful, it might interest me.

what do the separatists want?

break from the republic, start a civil war, divide the republic and eventually destroy it making other systems join the separatist group. t
the separatists join in geonisis to watch how one of their strongest opponers gets killed: Senator Amidala.
geonosis is the planet where they build and store their armies.
cound dooku is the leader of the separatists.

what do darth sidious want?

he wants to create a war to accomplish:

1)involving the jedis in a full scale war, he gets rid of lots of jedis and eventually he defeats them.

2)create unrest in the republic so the senator fearing the fall of the republic vote for emergency powers that will give palpatine the power to create a "grand army" of his own (well "for the republic" he says).

3) make the jedis seem responsable of creating a war and then palpatine blames them for the unrest in the republic.

what do the separatists do?
they are believed to attempt on killing amidala coz she is against them.

what do palpatine do? he urges the senate to vote on creating a clone army against the separatists. he then sends obiwan and anakin to protect senator amidala.

what do darth sidios /darth tyrannus do? they send zam wessel in a suicide mission trying to kill amidala where obiwan and anakin are protecting her. then they send jango fett to oversee zam´s mission and then kill her just before she can say anything to obiwan.

what to obiwan do? he traces the weapon that killed zam all the way to kamino planet.

what do the kaminoans do?
they create a clone army using jango fett´s cells. Sido dyas (darth sidious) ordered them to create the army. Darth Tyrannus (count dooku) sends jango fett to kamino to donate his cells. the kaminoans believe they´re creating an army for the jedi council/republic.

what do the separatist do?
they just fight under orders of count dooku. They believe they fight for their own powerful cause. they believe they´re strong enough to destroy the republic. they create lots of droids to be able to fight against any grand army the republic creates.

what do palpatine do? as chancellor he creates a grand army of clones against the separatists.

what do the jedis do? they fall in a trap. some go to geonosis and fall under the hands of the separatists. the council decides to go and rescue them, with help of the republic´s clone army (the one in kamino which the sith prepared for them) and start the clone army.

What do palpatine do? he blames the jedi of starting the clone wars and being responsable of unrest in the republic and declares them traitors and starts killing them. at the same time he declares himself emperor and in charge of the new galactic empire.

That is SO far from being crystal clear. It is very extrapolated and unconvincing. Doubly so as I see nothing that makes me think that the attempt was not meant to succeed.

i guess ull have to wait and watch the movie. remember george lucas' stuff is not always crystal clear.
