Question about ANH

Ok, this has been bugging me for awhile. In ANH, 3P0 says "there will be no escape for the princess this time" as Vader and the troopers board the ship, then when R2 D2 is playing the hologram on Tatooine, Luke asks who she is and 3P0 says he isn't quite sure, but he believed she was a person of some importance. So is this just a mistake in the dialogue or what?

no, he probably is doubting between being the obedient servant and answering all to Luke or what was told to him by Captain Antilles (ANH novel and yes that's canon) to keep Leia's identity a secret

As yet we do not know all the stuff that's went on in the years between episode 3 and episode 4.If there is to be a tv series just think about the possibilitys.I for one am very excited about a tv series.

he just says he not sure who she is. But he knows of the Rebellion and that the organization he essentially works for, so he must know shes active in it. But outside the films, that was just a line of dialogue to let US know she was active in the fight against the Empire so we think she's in great danger and the scene is more interesting.

3P0 lied to Luke. Simple.

i thought that they erased their memory slightly. perhaps they were damaged in the crash

The memory wipe occurred 20years before ANH, so I doubt that had anything to say.

Perhaps this was just another Lucas flaw. Perhaps he shot the scene with Luke end 3PO before the one in the ship, and had made some changes in the mean time. Like Anakin Skywalker wasn't supposed to be Vader at the time of ANH, but that got changed in the time between ANH and ESB.

That would be pretty hard for 2 droids to lose exactly same amount of data from their memory at the same time.

If one of them should falter, then the other could re-tell the story to the faltered one.

What? It is only 3PO who says he doesn't know who she is. R2D2 knows but is unable to communicate with Luke.

But if C3PO really doesn't know anything, then R2D2 could tell 3PO the story, which 3PO could tell to luke.

Of course this wouldn't work if 3PO was altering the truth on purpose...

That is indeed a very strange line since the third movie coming out the twins are going to be born and vador is not vador yet.So I think this is wrong to have that line in it since the new hope is supose to take a while later of the third one.
Either that or something happen that we don't know anything about.JM

it's not cause you don't know it that it's wrong... the movie isn't out yet

and yes Anakin is VadEr before the end of the movie. So it would stand to reason that hes Vader when the twins are born, which is at the end of the movie. And what does that have to do with C3PO telling luke ANYTHING? Vader being Vader in Ep3 when thwe kids are born as nothing to do with a line 3PO tell luke in ANH.

i second that.
so many people just cant grasp the idea that 3p0 just MIGHT
be able to keep a secret. sure he is a coward and a blabbermouth,
but 3p0 has never gave away his friends or the rebellion.

yes, 3p0 lied

Ok now you guys are geting off the subject and it is geting confusing! Can we please go back to t he topic? Thanks!JM

wtf?

you were the one off topic.

as yers said, c-p30 lied to protect the princess. "Someone of great importance"...he'd know someone of importance who's near him

he didn't lie, he followed an order of his rightful master

the order: lie

the order: protect the princess by hiding her identity
