Two Questions: #1 Router Brands and #2 Limited XP Account Issue

#1: If I have a Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router, do I need another linksys receiver if I were to get one for my PS2, or does it run on the same frequency that I could get, say, Motorola, or any other brand, and it'll work with the router? I'm thinking setup might be easier if I got a Linksys, but I'm not sure.

#2: Is there any sort of restrictions with playing games, such as The Sims, on a limited Windows XP user account? My sister just discovered that *oh no* she can't make systemwide changes to the computer! Is this a legit argument, or is she just trying to pry her way into getting an administrative account? I see no reason for my thirteen year old downloading maniac sister to have an admin account. No reason at all. Any ideas?

Thanks; all help appreciated.

you just won't be able to install Sims, but once admin has install it, then anyone can play it (anyone that the admin has allowed)

It depends on if your router complies to the IEEE 802.11 standard - if so then you can use any other connection that supports the same standard.

Nope, she shouldn't have problems. Whats the error message she's getting?

raz, there is no error message, she just can't do it because she's a standard user

She quit out of the program, and my mom just logged on to make her an admin... ugh and I got the nastiest "foiled again!" grin from her.. but she didn't give me any specific error message, she just said that it says "Did not save." Anything points I can convey to get her back to limited, if she shouldn't be having problems? My mom keeps letting her change it back, since she doesn't quite know the difference between the two account types.

Running as Admin is not at all recommended - most people run as a normal user so they don't mess up the system by accident.

Maybe you could see if she has this problem yourself?

just find a way to break the PC that only you know how to fix, and when you fix it, blame it on your sis messing about with the admin settings 😉

I would love to, but she's not letting me touch the CDs. "You don't need them!" I'm sick and tired of cleaning the computer every week because she HAS TO BE an admin to download spyware and malware amuss.... I swear, if she sees a toolbar ad, she downloads it, there was probably 14 different ones on there.

"You know nothing about computers!!!!" and "You're not supposed to be on this computer!" are her only retorts... and I try to explain to my mom, and she just lets my sister be an admin, to shut her up, which isn't needed at all...

I tried to get the CD from her, and now my whole family's gone against me, so to sum it up, I think I'll be figuring this problem out some other time, when they're not all pissed off. (They're Yankee fans. I am the lone Sox fan. Maybe that has to do with something, I don't know.)

In the meantime, anybody else have any experience with that "saving" problem?

Hm, not a bad idea. Might prove useful. But for now, she's not getting The Sims back... and we own two copies because she effed with the registry on one of them, and I guess buying another copy would "fix it", or so my family thinks.

how do you screw over the registry with a copy of sims? 😕

I don't know...you'd either have to try really hard, or be really dumb.

There shouldn't be any problem with playing games on a limited account -- you can't install on a limited account but there is NO problem in playing/saving the Sims on a limited account, my sister does it all the time. She's just BSing your mom into giving her an admin account.

She uninstalled it improperly once and couldn't install it, messing the registry, so then she decided to buy another copy. 😕

I prefer to play it safe. The Admin account is more suceptable to Viruses

Damn
Thats hardcore screw up!
I know cuz i've messed with the sims.
I had to wipe the computer sonce, so I took all the saved registry files out and burned them on a dist then whiped the computer poped in teh disk, and blammo! saved games are back!
