OOC: …You don’t know what you have until it’s gone…or something along those lines. I would hate to delete all of what I’ve written but hopefully it won’t come down to that for you. Well, to make up for me not writing for this in the past few days, here’s a little something courtesy of me...
Chrys felt her face start to become pelted with water, a cold comfort to her face. She felt as if she was burning up from the inside out, the constant pain arching down her back and into her chest contributing to the horrible sensation. She wanted to cry out but couldn’t, not even sure if she were alive anymore.
The feeling of the rain was starting to disappear, only the cold being felt. The loud thumps of water pouring down hard onto the muddy grass turned to the lightest of drizzles to Chrys as the world started to slip from her, she fading further into darkness. She had balled up the wet earth in a hand but felt her hand slipping, she starting to lose her grip. She started to let go when muffled voices caught her hearing.
“…Paul…” she wasn’t sure if his name had left her lips but it sounded more like a question then a statement. The muffled voice came closer to her, a gentle brush against her lips and the cold temporarily going away. Her eyelids felt heavier than usual, best left closed so with reluctance on her part, she opened them slightly, making out a dark figure leaning by her face, rain dripping down from their hair onto her forehead.
She fluttered her eyelids in an attempt to get a better look but gave up after a minute, turning her face to the side. She had figured out who the face belonged to, she had seen it constantly through her dreams. She held back a cough, her fingertips resting in the grass as she spoke in a weak tone, barely audible over the storm.
“…Why is it raining in the in…oh, silly me…” she drifted off as she felt her eyes grow hot, her vision hazy. “…it’s ironic, so ironic. I walked here…I walked back to see you…I had to,” she gave a weak laugh, coming out as a cough. She placed her hands to her mouth, hunching over in pain from the sudden movement. “…I walked back to see you, but now I can’t see a thing. From the shadows of the clouds to the smallest blade of grass in my face. I know it’s there…but…I think it’s my body’s way of saying that I’m going to d-” She choked up on the last word, her tears being washed away in the rain.
Paul stroked her face, unable to say anything for the moment. He turned to Raine and said something indistinct. She paused before nodding her head in agreement to his statement. He said something low as he leaned over and in an unexpected movement, placed Chrys over his back, her head resting on his shoulder, her arms wrapped around his neck, her legs around his waist. Raine carefully placed his jacket over Chrys and with that done, they started to make their way from the University Grounds.
Chrys had been on Paul’s back for a few minutes, snuggling her cheek into his neck in an attempt to get warmth as once her surroundings started to set in, the cold wasn’t as soothing as she had originally thought. She let out a curious, sluggish whisper. “…where are we going…?”
Paul continued his steady pace, looking around in the washed out streets of the city. “We’re gonna find a place to get out the rain for awhile.”
She ignored her pain, something flickering in the darkest part of her mind. She bit the side of her cheek lightly in thought, too tired to open her eyes or show emotion. “We…we…” her breath was coming out haggard, but she forced herself to continue. “We can’t stop…not now. I…I have one more place to go, it has to be done. And your people…don’t you need to go back to them?” She knew in her head she was being stupid for not considering her health but she had to accomplish her objectives. She didn’t want to take the risk of her dying before it was all done.
Paul paused in his step, not saying a word after Chrys’s statement. He sighed, continuing on. “Don’t worry; it’s just a short break, less than five minutes.” Chrys nodded her head in understanding, too weak to open up her eyes or see the exchange of glances being shared between Raine and Paul.
She snuggled her cheek further into his neck, reminiscing about the past as she tried to get her thoughts away from what seemed to be fate. “…this reminds me of my birthday…” she paused, Paul glancing to her in confusion. She tightened the grip of her legs around his waist as she continued on in a light voice, a trace small across her lips. “…my twenty first birthday, the only one we actually spent together. You took me out to…” the curl around her lips turned into a smile as she completely ignored the rain around her, her face holding a dreamy expression. “…to a theme park, never went there in my life. I never told you…at least I don’t think…but I loved it. The restaurant…that was even better. The Hotel suite topped it all, the pool on the rooftop, Jacuzzi to the bottom.”
Chrys buried her face into him, finally deciding to lean her cheek on his shoulder. “The morning after…you carried me down to the Jacuzzi since I was having a little trouble walkin after-”
“Stop!” cut off Raine, her eyes opened wide as she blinked to Chrys. She had been focusing on being their main source of offense considering Paul was carrying Chrys and she had intended in being silent until they reached wherever, but she had to interfere. “Trouble walking after what?” she exclaimed. “No, that’s it. I find it all sweet and stuff but no, no details, please, for the love of god, spare me the details…” Raine said, closing her eyes as she started to rub the center of her forehead in a circular motion with her index finger.
Chrys thought about her words then opened up one eye halfway in Raine’s direction. “It’s not what you’re thinking.”
“Oh, and what am I thinking, hmm?” inquired Raine.
“I know how it sounded and it’s not what you are thinking,” responded Chrys, emphasis on ‘you’. She took in an exhausted breath before continuing with her eyes close. “Before the hotel, we went ice-skating and my ass shared a very special connection with the ice…several times as a matter of fact. Though my stubborn behind didn’t want to quit so by the end of it all I could barely stand let alone walk.”
Raine looked to her curiously, deciding on not commenting as she walked ahead to the bolted side entrance to what looked to be a seemingly untouched hotel. Paul and Chrys watched her go, Paul not talking until Raine was out of earshot. “You know Chrys, you’re lucky you’re all stone faced as of now because you were never a good liar.”
