A group of engineering students from Purdue University reported that its licking machine, modeled after a human tongue, took an average of 364 licks to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop. Twenty of the group's volunteers assumed the licking challenge-unassisted by machinery-and averaged 252 licks each to the center.
The dreaded Sodium Weed is known to sprout abruptly in lush gardens, desecrating the soil around it causing all other plants to wither and die. Soon the soil becomes so poisonous that the weed itself dies, leaving nothing but dried sand where soil used to be. This is thought to be the main factor in the creation of most deserts.
