Cult Movies...

i dont kow if you could classify this under horror films but its close enough....

this is a plce to talk about some cult movies and to give your perspective about what is happoning...

i'm going to start it off with donnie darko....

i heard that in brooklyn every sat. some people play this at an old theater and disscuss what they think is going on..

heres what i think is happening...

well donnie darko, is living his life up until frank the bunnie from the future comes along, and at the begining he almost got crushed by a plane jet pack and non one can figure out where it came from... so he goes and lives his life and stays alive by doing what frank tells him to do and at the end his girlfriend dies and he goes back in time to save her. but as the time portal is opening his mothers and sisters plane jet breaks off and goes into the portal... donnie darko goes back in time before they hit the ground that is why they diddnt die... and he saves many lives by doing this because he is back to where he started in is bed and then the jet comes down and hits him and he dies...

now the questions that you have to wonder about from this b=movie are....

do we really die alone???

if donnie went back in time then why was he laughing b4 he died?

how come donnies girlfriend is waving to donnies mother if they dont even know eachother yet???

and how come frank is rubbing his eye at the end?

do they have somekind of memory of the events that occured???

One of the best cult movies is Battle Royale from Japan.One of the best out there I must say.And Donnie Darko is sort of a horror movie what it's supposed to be a drama or something???

Here is something I wish someone could explain it to me. Why is there Horror movies that are consider Cult? Example: Driller Killer, Toolbox murders and Fulci's Zombie? I've always consider Cult to be b-movies and explotations films. But why Horror?

and i donno what you could classify donnie darko under but i'd have to say horror , its just like the forgotten. it wasnt scarry but its classified under horror.... (i think😖😖)

With horror movies even the crappy movies are watchable.See bad drama's are chessey and bad comedies are immune to make fun of because they want you to laugh but you can't.And bad action movies aren't to bad because they at least have good action scenes.But with b-movies(mostly on sci-fi with there original movies)and horror movie(Friday the 13th 5) you can watch it look at all the killing or simply laugh at it.So that why it's mostly in the cult section because it's not world wide known movies but there always certain people who love them to death and have a place for them in there heart.

Donnie Darko isn't a horror. It's a creepy sci-fi drama, and an amazing one at that!

do they have somekind of memory of the events that occured??? - This answer is for the last three questions: Everyone that Donnie affected during the movie remember these events in the form of a dream. Frank rubbed his eye because he just dreamed of being shot in the eye. Though they don't say it in the movie, you'll have to go to donniedarko.com, Jim Cunningham destroyed all his kiddie porn and committed suicide the next day.

A cult movie of any genre is a movie that :

- isn't a hit
- doesn't make alot of money

(both usually do to them being small budget or limited release pictures)

- gathers a strong following over time

a good example is The Evil Dead. When it was released.........it made no money. A limited release independent film....a low budget B-movie. It was out for a minute........and it was gone. Through years of video rentals (alot of which brought on by the equally no-money making sequels) more and more people saw it and loved it........gaining a large audience. The movie has probably made more money in the last 7 years through VHS and DVD sales than it did in the first 15 years from VHS sales/rentals and box office take.

Yes the same was said about Alien which was more of a horror movie then sci-fi.Donnie darko the same thing looks aand feels like a drama or sci-fi but is a horror movie.

Killer Klowns From Outer Space. great cult film.

Damn Slipknot I haevn't seen that movie for so long that reminds me to watch it.Now that's a cult movie.

did he save the world?? we dont know the end could still come in the same number of days... it doesnt tell us... but i know that he did accomplish to save his girlfriend and frank..

cult movies can be cescribed in a lot of ways but to me cult movies are movies that get peoples attention and, and keep them comming back for more... like Killer Klowns From Outer Space.... (lol)... great movie

Well everybody has their different opinions on why exactly Donnie killed himself at the end, but.....even though the movie makes almost a total of no ****ing sence, it's still pretty good. Can't wait for the Director's Cut.

Eraserhead, big trouble, and evil dead are my personal favorites of the genre, maybe suspiria. What the hell is the big damn deal about donnie darko though? The atmosphere was decent,but i found the story to be quite pointless.

Cult movies are not necessarily B-movies. A cult movie is basically a lesser known title that has a following of fans. A cult movie can be a B-movie, but a B-movie is not always a cult movie. All squares are rectangles, but not all rectangles are squares.

A cult film is a movie that attracts a small but devoted group of obsessive fans or one that has remained popular over successive years amongst a small group of followers. Often the film failed to achieve mainstream success on its original release, but this is not always the case. Sometimes the audience response to a cult film is somewhat different to what was intended by the filmmakers, although usually a film that becomes "cult" started out with unusual elements or subject matter.

A film reaches cult status due to an audience's relationship to the film. This makes the designation of cult status to a film difficult, however continued success amongst a subset of moviegoers many years after the film's original release is a key defining factor

Film doesn't have to have small following, can be millions viewed films like the James Bond series. Star Wars and so on.

most of my favourite films are cult films.

Thanks for the input eveyone. This clears my mind about on what is cult and what isn't.

I suggest you watch it again and read the Book of Time Travel on the DVD special features. 😉

often failed to acheive mainstream success. I alos used the word basically when I defined it. So I was right; just not exact.
