MMORPG's

alright people heres my problem. my friend is addicted to mmorpgs(aka Final Fantasy 11, everquest) and hes so addicted that he doesnt want to get a job, he tears away from everyone, and hes autistic. any suggestions?

If he's actually autistic, I think that it's pretty impressive that he is effectively able to play MMORPG's. Most of the autistic people I know can barely function at all, not to mention getting a job...

Yea it is pretty good that he is playing video games.Because most kids like that don't and can't leave the world that they are in.I think you should try if you can to get him interested in geting a job.
Talk to him about it.And use something in the video game to catch his interest.I hope it works and that he gets a good job.JM

he is playing final fantasy 11. he is slightly autistic but enough to get himself disqualified from the draft. anyways i dont think introducing another mmorpg is going to help him.

uh...do what i do to my sister, take away the game and make them find something else to do

find something fun to do together that takes him away from his games and get him to hang with other people... see if he wants to see a movie with some friends or something. Or rent a movie and hang out at a house somewhere. Invite him to things... I dunno.

we still havent talked yet. its all due to him coming over sunday, playing the thing for 7-8 hours and not letting us play for a minute. its like hes using me. anyways i said something to his friends on his linkshell that one of his leaders should "run for president since they were in a mountainous area, going in circles, and didnt have a map or clue of what they were doing." they were going to throw my friend out for my remark. now hes mad at me. i cant help but feel major hypocracy in all this.

So he comes over to your house and plays your version of the same game that he can play at his house? I don't follow.

and i dont really have an account on ffxi. he does. the only way i get to play the game at all is by him coming over with his ps2 and use my cable modem.

thats more of a side concern than a problem. i more worried about him tearing away from everyone.

Anyhow, the autistic child you mentioned probably does not understand that you feel he is using you. When he begins playing, he probably gets so absorbed in the game world that he doesn't even realize the amount of time spent playing, and, since he is autistic, he has a tendency to fixate on one thing obsessively. FFXI happens to be this fixation. Talking to him will be difficult, as he has trouble "reading" emotions, but you need to communicate with him somehow. I would try e-mailing him--face-to-face conversations are probably challenging for him.
