Have you seen "Superman: The Movie"?

held up to the success of xmen? do you mean that in a positive or negative way, because both x-movies were a huge success
Well, when something is going to be expected to do as well as the X Men franchise, apparently it means that (X Men) was good.

obscure legion of superheroes? The FF4 kick the sh!t out of the x-men anyday.
The Fantastic Four animated series lasted all of 2 seasons, and was bounced around 3 different television studios, they had no video games, like the X Men. A Spinoff animated series? Movie franchise? Action figure lines? Individual character comic book spinoffs?
"X Men" is practically a household name. I'm surprised people aren't drawng comparisons between "The Incredibles" and the ****ing "Bionic Six", if anything.
the silver surfer cartoon lasted about 10 episodes, doesnt mean it wasnt good
human torch and thing have had spinoff comics, although not as much as xmen the FF also have had their share of action figures (besides the marvel age series) and the movie franchise they're working on
the fantastic four are the first superhero family ever created, they sure as hell arent an obscure legion of superheroes

They ( disney) should really have waited until AFTER the release of the movie that they are making a parody of.

Well, if a cartoon lasts only 10 episodes, something didn't go over? The "Fantastic Four" cartoon had to rely on a bunch of cameos to keep their shows going.
Outside of comic book lore, they definately are. They aren't part of pop-culture like Superman, Batman, or the X Men. You get my point?
The reason The Silver Surfer cartoon didn't last, the reason why the comic was cancelled and the reason why the movie will most probably either be grilled by critics or extremely unfaithful to the character is because Surfer is extremely EXTREMELY powerful. One of the most powerful in the Marvel Universe.
When you have that power, people don't want to read about philosophical takes on the universe, love and humanity. They want to see him blowing shit up. The reason why clever and intricate stuff doesn't work as well as Wolverine getting his claws out and going "Rawr" is because people are dumb.
The Incredibles movie is a parody, it wont do damage to the Fantastic Four for the simple reason that most people who don't know comics wont even know who the Fantastic Four are to the degree that they will go in and say "Oh look it's a parody of that family of superheroes." If anything it will attract movie goers to the actual feature when it's released. The only backlash is that they may think Fantastic Four is an Incredibles rip off which is extremely unlikely.

For someone who has been so sarcastic and opiniative about this subject, you don't really seem to know much about the Fantastic Four...Disney was very divisive when they created the incredibles...the powers of 3 characters were dubiously immitated...it looks like they took the same powers and changed the family roles of the characters to avoid a lawsuit...the stretching and invisibility/force field actually wasn't imitation, it was duplication! How anyone can argue a character that has a forcefield and invisibility power is not a rip off of Invisible Woman is beyond me...cuz u know it makes perfect sense...If a character can create a force field...they should also be able to turn in visible, right? *stupid expression on face. clearly a rip off...additionally, the super hero family idea only edifies my argument. and who is Ben Richards? u mentioned a Ben Richards earlier...clear that up for me...Im not really upset about it...I think the FF movie will still do great in the box office since it appears movies about the more super powered heroes are going to be really popular for a while...and considering the success of the Spiederman movies, even Pixar and the incredibles should be jealous. What bothered me was that you immediately dismissed the idea of this thread and its creator as stupid, then totally lost your credibility with inaccurate statements.
