In Illinois, you can get a learner's permit at 15 and your license at 16, and you have to complete so many hours of classroom instruction and behind-the-wheel, as well as have your permit for at least three months before you can apply for your license. There's also restrictions on teen drivers here; until you've had your license for 6 months or you turn 18 (whichever happens first) you can't have more than one other teen in your car unless it's a sibling, and if you're 16 and out past curfew your license is invalid. I don't know, though...yeah, I see plenty of bad drivers who are young, but I also see a lot of older drivers who are really bad, too. So I think it depends on the person. Several of my friends have gotten in car accidents, but every single time it was the fault of the other driver, who in every case was and older driver.
I didn't get my permit until I was 17 and just got my license in April, and when I went to take my driving test for my license I was so scared I was going to totally screw up. Well, I didn't get any points taken off 🙄 And now I have to spend an hour every day driving to and from school...I try to be a good and safe driver, though, I'm not one of those insane people you see flying all over the road and I NEVER talk on my cell while driving.
Oh, and never try driving in downtown Chicago. The people there are crazy 😖
