A skater is someone who skateboards. A "sk8er," on the other hand, is someone who skates while listening to bad music of any kind, and wears ridiculous clothing items such as pink foam hats with their hair too long, but not so long as to be at proper headbanging length. Just long enough so as to look stupid.
