Hunting for food or sport? Is it a good thing or a bad thing?

Hunting neutral for any reasons.

We're on the top of the food chain, thank god.

I live in the country, know how to shoot and so forth, but hunting has never appealed to me (as I am an environmentalist), and see no sporting enjoyment, and no real reason for myself to hunt down food. I even release most of the fish I catch. Most. There is sometimes a third reason to hunt, and that is pest control. In Australia wild pigs, feral cats, foxes, carp and so forth do terrible damage to the environment, and have to be controlled. While I don't do it, in that case I support hunting unfortunately.

I do like to fish though, but I throw them back.
