Are powers realistic?

Do you think that the powers of any superhero could be scientifically possible?

maybe a select few in a few years, but i really dont think so

phh...batman...maybe....but all da others...i highly doubt it

yes, Batman, the Punisher, Captain America (maybe, who knows... there could be a secret government project....maybe), and all of the "human" superheroes without actual powers.

I think its possible for people to have phsycic and telekentic powers but not in the degree sum of the superheroes have.

There have been a few documented cases of "super strength" albeit of a less than Superman level. A baby, no more than 3 years old was able to hold 8 lb. weights with his arms outstretched for fairly good periods of time, a thing many adult men cannot do. They did tests on his tissue, and that of people in his family who display the same trait, and they have denser muscle tissue that builds easier or crap like that. It was pretty interesting.

^That article is in the General Discussion forum somewhere.

The book Science of the X-Men explains some stuff quite well, if it were possible, how it would be done. Good book.

Iron Man to an extent is also realistic.

well, there are a lot of fakes out there but there are reports of telekinetic activity and a guy in korea or china who had magnetic skin (it had to do with the amount of iron in his body or something), and there are many people who have accelerated reflexes and healing (nowhere near wolverine's level though but there was a person who healed twice as fast as normal humans)

Well if humans are still alive in a hundred years and we haven't killed eachother yet than ALOT of the comic book super hero powers and abilities can become reality.

Basically, there can be done something. Eliminate the sese of pain from someone, u will have basically a superhuman. There are some guys in Japan that can knock u out with their voice. I saw the damn clip and the guy played the gong from distance with his damn voice. Basically our undeveloped brain is our limit, so maybe in the future we will be able to overcome ourselves. If we get to the age when we can combine metal with human tissues we will be able to produce inhanced humans. Since that is not the case by a long shot well we shall have to wait another 100 years, if we don't all parish by then, hopefully not.

No, NO superpower is possible, that is why they are in comic books.

Sure we have a few freaks born here or there, but none who can do anything amazing. The only amazing thing about Humans that is amazing and can sometimes be superhuman, is our will.

Wouldn't this guy still die if he got stabbed?

lol

This isnt such a good topic you guys... because there are real people born with these defects that would make them " A super human" to us nerds... which is sick.
My cousin was born without feeling. He feels no pain, he feels nothing. Its nowhere near a fair trade off. He cant even brush his teeth without help for fear of pushing to hard and busting out his teeth. He cant taste food, he cant feel things, he broke his leg once and walked around for a half hour before someone noticed the blood, he damaged his veins horribly for walking around like that, and almost had to get his leg amputated.
Theres a child over in germany whose about 3 years old and can already lift three times his body weight, his muscles will not stop growing, by the time hes 10 his muscles will be so large he wont even be able to reach back and pull off his shirt.

BTW, there was someone who grafted a flame-thrower in his arm, but he couldnt move his arm and it cut off the blood circulation, he was then arrested and he, too, almost had to get an amputation.

I just wanted to discuss how plausible superheroes are...

My intention was not to joke about ppl that are born with these defects, we're discussing something about superheroes here, and as Rages said it's not possible. When we get the gene manipulation right, we might eliminate some defects and we might even be able to produce superhumans. I guess I'm not too far from the truth, cuz the army would love some stuff like that, and they have the damn funds.

I agree.

ESP can be somewhat classified similar in powers to premonitions made by Destiny.

Photographic memory could be classified as fast learning as Cypher had.

Ripley's believe or not had some exhibits describing people surviving often horrific scenarios.

A certain degree of drunkeness could allow you to keep your wits and still feel no pain (bodily damage will continue to happen however).

And if you believe on the possibility on extra abilities through dismemberment (i.e. male castration allowed unnatural feats in Swordsman II), then who knows what is possible?

yeah not all people with "powers" have birth defects. some people actually have stuff done to them (don't try it though b/c it's dangersous and stupid) and others just have their abilities as special talents.
