I havn't really watched wrestling in ages.........I might watch like 15 minutes of Raw every Monday or something but that's about it.
I still consider the eighties WWF as the best. Not out of nostalgia......just my personal opinion. Back in the 80s the WWF atleast tried to portray itself as a sporting event. The arena looked like any arena a boxing match was getting ready to take place in. They didn't have the huge stage set up and all. I liked that much better. Today they call it "sports entertainment" but I don't know where the "sports" part comes in........it looks nothing like a sporting event. The Raw set up looks like the set of American Gladiators. We all already know it's fake.....atleast help us try to suspend disbelief.
I also liked the stories in the 80s the best. The stories were geared to make it seem more realistic. A story line from the eighties was like, "you used to be my partner but turned your back on me...now I'm out to get you"....or "I was wrestling a friend of yours and you ran in and ruined my match, now I'm out to get you".....or even the simplest (and in my opinion the best) storyline, "hey...you're a good wrestler, so am I......I think I'm better than you....let's get in the ring to see who's better".........
Today is just way too over the top and soap opera like. HHH dressed up like Kane and simulating sex with a dead body? For some reason.....I can't imagine Ric Flair and Dusty Rhodes resorting to these tactics.
I must admit....the WWF did get a bit interesting in the mid nineties with the Monday Night Wars. I used to watch Nitro live and tape Raw. Eric Bischoff = genius. If Vince was a smart man he would have paid Bischoff double what Turner was paying him back in '94 because as we all saw, the WCW went to hell without him.
My all time favorite wrestling was the NWA/Early WCW.......I'm talking in the 80s and very early nineties. Ric Flair.....Dusty Rhodes.....The Steiners......The Funks.....Freebirds.....Doom....Ricky Steamboat....Sting....Luger....their talent was unbelievable. I lost hope for a while in WCW in the early to mid nineties when they tried to copy the WWF. They started giving their wrestlers gimmicks. Remember the Dungeon of Doom? Or how about Mortis and Kanyon? How stupid. That is when I stopped watching regularly...........from then on I watched sporadicly.
cant wait 4 taker 2 come. but i must admit now wrestling has become boring. all the backstage really does make me sick. the wrestlers cant act, and the storylines, 9/10 r stupid. however i wanna c what happens betweent taker and kane. it would b funny as hell if he came back at wrestlemania still in a MOTORBIKE haha
