Boys of Summer....but who was he??

after spending half an hour teaching fifteen 11-13 year old Guides how to sing this, it occurs to me that although I know the song, I can't remember who recorded it.... it was someone like john Cougar Mellencamp, but I don't think it was him... can any of you help??!!??

That's him... TYVM.... it was rather an apt song to sing to these girls, though....
