PLEASE PEOPLE FOR MY OWN SANATY PROVE ME WRONG!

1) LoTH was not the first book of its kind to be written so maybe that copied other books taking specific parts and changing them slightly!
2) That giant spider in LoTR did not talk like Aragog (backs up my point about using specific things and changing them slightly)!
3) Dobby is a house elf where Gollum was a hobbit creature/evil thing? Also Dobby was good and Gollum was evil! And there are differences in the apperances i.e the ears the nose etc just cause they have the same eyes means nothing!
4) Who the heck cares if they where both orphans so are many people in the world and in other books this does not mean she copied that from LoTR! Thats just tryin to pick at HP and JKR!
5) The Dementors in HP Glided across the floor whereas the Nazgul walked! Also the Nazgul where unable to fly unless they had those gay lookin creatures whereas the Dementors where able to fly! And The Dementors also surrounded there prey (the people they where after) in a dark cloud sucking all the happiness out of them whereas the Nazgul just sniffed alot and made that gay screching noise! So what if I put on a black hood and pretended I was evil and started sniffing every1 would that mean I was copying Tolkin NO I THINK NOT!!!!!!!!!!

I do like LoTR but I hate it when people constantly say JKR copied Tolkin it is just a reason to start an argument! They are similar but there are subtle changes made and there are huge differences e.g. The settings etc (just incase you start saying JKR copied that from Tolkin and also there are facts that nobody cares about e.g. The orphan thing but people still have to say JKR copied Tolkin it is a loud of c**p! There are so many differences that give these two books there individuality but no we have to concentrate on the bad things well I say screw that and we should just complement them both for being really good books!!!!!!!!!!!! 😠

And we've already been through this routine and it was incorrect anyhow, JKR did NOT plagiarise. This is a duplicate thread! Where's the moderator?

Both books are based on the fairy tale genre, which means they'll have many similar points, such as, let's say, the orphan, the giant monsters, representatives of 'the little people', etc. Definately, Rowling's been inspired by Tolkien, but also by the Greek mythology, folk lore from different parts of the world, and many more things, just as Tolkien, as far as I've heard, was inspired by the Norse mythology. Nobody can ignore the literature and culture of their time, or the unwritten rules of different genres.

LOTR is part of a sub-genre of fantasy - so is Harry Potter.
HP has much more to do with wizards, and the wizards in LOTR are angel-kind creatures.
Gandalf is not human, Saruman as well. There are so many differences!
You shouldn't complain when you don't really get all of the stories

yah i think harry potty did copy a bit, but i still love it! (i found that spider thing so obviouse how much copied it was!)

But still, those two spiders are very different. As Stumister said, Aragog talks, LOTR-spider doesn't. Aragog is more of a person; he's got family, he knows right from wrong. He also stands out from other spider-monsters in the way that he's male. Spiders are usually portrayed as female. In that sense, Rowling breaks with other writers characterization of 'spider-monsters', including the one from LOTR.

This thread needs to be closed cause this has been gone over and that thread got shut down but it is all old and we have decided that both have been taken from an age of books along the same line so stop with the HP Dising! 😠
