Is Star Wars science fiction?

Yup its always been justly applied in my mind, the Scifi-Fantasy tag....

Technically Star Trek would be too, but they do have more of a grounding in science (Never saw anyone in SW dealing with Wormholes,
time-travel theory, Einstein, Hawking, the problems involved in space travel over large distances, the theory of multi-verses or any much hardcore explaination of anything real technical on the science side...)
despite it at times being written at times with a "Insert tech ref here"
mentality in sacrifice of developing stories...
(Yep...! They DO actually employ a bunch of tech guys for that...!)

In Starwars, all of this aspect is left to the EU side...
But ALL of Star Trek too is, until such a reality is established- Fantasy also. It does just IMHO pip SW to the 'Scifi' post.....

George Lucas never likes Star Wars being called Sci-Fi--- he calls it Space Fantasy, he said that the exact same story could be used at any point in time. Set in the dark ages with magic instead of the Force, and instead of travelling across stars, the travel across countries

Indeed, kinda like in a Willow-setting
