Sisyphus

Condemed to roll a boulder up the hill, only to do it over from the bottom.

how would you make it over the top?

The whole point of the poor devils punishment that it was impossible to ever get it to the top, and if he did it would roll down again. Still, if you worked at it for long enough I am sure it would wear the stone down and eventually you could carry it up 🙂

Alternatively I would have just said no. What are they going to do to him? Send him to bed with no supper?

I don't really understand this question at all.JM

It' s a Greek myth.
The gods had condemned Sisyphus to ceaselessly rolling a rock to the top of a mountain, but before it reached the top, the stone would fall back of its own weight. They had thought with some reason that there is no more dreadful punishment than futile and hopeless labor.

BI' s question is whether you would find a way to roll it over the top or not.

Alternatively I would have just said no. What are they going to do to him? Send him to bed with no supper?

Ah, but those sufferiing in Tartarus are damned to do as their punishment requires--why do you think poor Tantalus ever lowered himself to drink and stretched out his hand to eat?
They had thought with some reason that there is no more dreadful punishment than futile and hopeless labor.

The Nazis did some experiments with this theory as well. The results were...interesting.
