1. Does Sidious fake his defeat against Mace?
No.
2. In slightly other words: If Anakin had not interfered, would Mace have been able to kill Sidious?
Mace nearly does kill Sidious. Which reminds me....Sidious must have two sabers...hmm.

The transformation is a reason Mace gets defeated and Sidious doesn't.
I mentioned something about Obi-Wan in ANH on the Death Star earlier. Mace does a similar thing in the idea that he doesn't just confront Palps...he has something else up his sleeve.
Mace and Jedi confront
Jedi killed
Mace fights Sidious
Mace gets better of sidious
Sidious surrenders

LOL...Mace isn't trying to disconnect anything. What I am saying is that Mace arrives, does something, then takes on Sidious hoping Sidious will fall into his trap.
And although the trap fails, Mace is about to kill Sidious when something happens.

Anakin comes in during their duel and knocks out the video Palpatine is recording. This is how Mace set up Palpatine.
This is right for the first part BUT: the people are wrong and the persons doing it is wrong.
Palpatine falls to his knees in defeat as the great Windu prepares to slice the pathetic Sith Lord to ribbons. Then Palpatine continues to play cheating death to Anakin...

... Anakin intrevenes, they duel to the window, Palpatine suddenly blasts out with force lightning (his face goes Sidious), and Mace falls to his doom.

Mace has nothing to do with the camera - that's Sidious' trap so he can reveal his attack to the Senate.

In short, if I got it right.
Palpatine plants a camera so he can record Mace attacking him. Thats why he gets down on his knees in front of Mace.
Then while Maces is kicking his ass he films that to show the people that the Jedi are bad. Anakin shows up. Sids shuts the camera down. Palp turns into Sideous and they fight. Anakin steps in to help Sideous. etc etc. get it? If not this is the thread at tfn.

Thank you, JP. Much clearer. For awhile it was like:
Mace sets up Palpatine.
But he only fakes to fake Palpatine.
Palpatine fakes faking at Mace but ends up only pretending to fake.
Anakin stumbles onto all the faking and gets confused.
He decides to come back later and maybe then he will figure out who is the real faker.
Anakin come back, but is still undecided to whom is faking and decides
"Well, when in Rome." and fakes to kill Sids, but he was only pretending
to kill Sids and kills Mace. Got it?

Almost JP..... Palps does not get on his knees to fake anything, Mace is seriously winning the fight. 'There is no fake situations, no fake deaths, no fake defeats...'
There is also another small yet important detail that Motee is NOT telling us. I dont know what it is yet............
