movie im looking for

im looking for this certain film and i have no idea what the name of it is maybe someone here has seen it this is what its about.
i think it was made in the late 70s maybe early 80s
its about this crazy family who kidnap a young women and hold her for ransom.the mother of the family is the brains behind the whole plan and she wants to kill the women even if they get the money.but one of her young sons falls in love with the women and when the rest of the family try to kill her he wont let them and ends up killing his own mother to protect the young women.i know that he escapes with the women at the end but gets killed by the cops.does this film seem familiar to anyone i would be very grateful if someone could tell me the name of it

i have no idea i thought edwarton norton was in it and looked it up but he isnt.the lead charachter does look like edward norton though.its been awhile since ive seen it i can only remember the basic storyline.

thats it thats the film i saw it back in 1996 and thought it was brilliant.then a couple of months ago i decided i wanted to see it again but couldnt remember the name or any of the actors.thats great youve been a big help i knew someone here would reconise the story.thanks again.
