I use the "thumbs up" for one movie, and now everyone's resorting to it. 🙄
Anycrap, "Full Metal Jacket" is best described as two seperate movies. The 2nd half is slow, and less effective, but watching Animal Mother and namely Private Joker literally deconstruct before your eyes makes it worth owning, IMO.
As for Kubrick on the whole, I think he himself is overrated. All the so called Kubrick aficionados will praise him for FMJ, The Shining, etc..and probably never in their life will watch Barry Lyndon, Paths of Glory, or Lolita.
"2001" springs to mind as one of his most overrated works, where as "A Clockwork Orange" does the same when it comes to kids claiming to like it, only to fit in, quoting "ultra-violence" is cool when they fail to grasp that it was exactly what Kubrick was preaching against, the debauched future where..surprise surprise..ultra violence is a "cool" word for nothing more than rape.

Thought the film was amazing, but not close to being as good as the outstanding piece of literature Burgess handed to us.

"Ultra violence" doesn't even mean rape. It simply means, attacking people.Thought the film was amazing, but not close to being as good as the outstanding piece of literature Burgess handed to us.
"Ultra-violence" = Rape. Rape = attacking people. It's synonymous, really. I wasn't painting all Kubrick fans in a corner, either. I'm speaking from my experience, where some people just don't know any better.

What i mean is, we have a big screen at home just like the big cinema only smaller... it has a CD/DVD player and it has a projector... get it? 🙂
