thats like asking whether or not cats or dogs bite.

Is it possible to hold a domesticated ferret any way other than that way where you hold it around the middle so it can't move?

well, there really is no way to hold them so they cant move. trying to force them in your grasp is like trying the same with a snake.

that way seems to be the best way to make them feel secured so they dont squirm, but if they dont want to be held, they wont

I tried to hold one in a slightly different position once but it gained a surprising amount of leverage and was almost able to get away. I don't know if they are sufficiently intelligent to ever want to be held though.
