To be honest, if you knew it was in London, RJ, you'd have asked "Where in London?".
If you knew it was in the country's capital city but not where specifically, you'd not have asked where in the country it is.
If you didn't know, as it seems you didn't, just say so, it's not a crime. Unless you're offended with yourself that an anglophile (No offense meant, it just seems to be your position.) was unaware of London's geography.

It's probably a bit of a knock if you pride yourself on being an American who ISN'T unaware of other countries' geography.
It's a mistake and if he's a man who's willing to learn, it's not something I'm having a go at him for. Hyde Park isn't THAT famous, so if you don't know where it is, it's not an act punishable by death. I just think such cover ups are bad, if that's what he's doing. Seems like it, but might not be. We'll never know.
