What is there to understand?

You say that it's a form of expressing yourself. I say it's a form of expressing yourself in order to draw attention to yourself.

What you said is true, but what I said goes further into the truth.

you dont understand....i could beat you in the head with a freaking bat and you still wouldnt get it .

Typical response to something that YOU CAN'T EXPLAIN yet claim to understand.

Of course, violently eliminating anyone who questions the gothic belief is infinitly easier than finding a legitament reason for being gothic.

But what fashion style doesn't want to draw attention? Certain fashions designs in clothes are meant to draw attention. Goth isn't any different. Why say is only goths? Sports fans wear huge clothes with their team logos to show they support their team. What's so different? none. People wear them to bring attention to themselves goth or no goth.

Brent. Do be quiet darling 😗

That's good.

Comparing a goth to a sports team.

Sports teams wear uniforms in order to differentiate teammates from the opposing team. What other team are goths playing against?
Also sports teams are required to wear uniforms by league rules and regulations. What rules and regulations do goths follow? and how are those rules enforced?

What's the difference between a goth and say......a clown? you got the multli-colored dye job on the hair, the freakish facial make-up, and the desire to dress so different from the "norm" that their outfits look uniform.

Fashion aside....there's more to being a goth than just what you wear.

what i understand is this....its an expression of style....attention seeking yes...but what the hell....there are other groups of people who express themselves too with other styles....to attract attention .

.....if my daughters wanted to be goth....they can....i love them enough to let them "express" themselves....no matter what their style is...as long as they are making good grades and arent trouble makers......ill not.....as you put it.....beat it out of them !

Wrong again Link! I said "fans" you know the people that pay a ticket to go to a sports event to watch a game.

Now you talk about clowns? What about those die-hard fans like Raider Nation or Laker bandwagoners? Don't tell me you've never seen an NFL game. Don't the fans put on make up and color their hair to match their favorite teams color? So what's the difference between a goth and a guy that puts on make up just because they support their team? No difference at all.

Brent, the ideas you have about the way you are going to treat your children worry me to the extent that I seriously hope you never have any.

Preston, I've heard enough from you buddy.

What I'm doing is creating controversy in the thread. You, and several other members wouldn't even bother coming back to this thread a 2nd time if I would just "be quiet"

I'm enjoying myself, and you clearly are being entertained by my constant rambling because otherwise you wouldn't have taken the time to come into this thread, read up, and then post. Same goes to everyone else...

I'm reading you because I enjoy confrontation. You gotta problem with that? george

....no one person is the reason im in here posting .

Do Raiders fans wear their make-up in their everyday life? Do they wear it to work? school?

I'm thinking the answer is NO, and that would mean THERE IS A DIFFERENCE.

That's like saying there's no difference between Halloween and everyother day. But it was a nice try...

I don't have a problem with that.

By telling me to be quiet, I would think that you would be the one who has a problem with confrontation

Of course they wear their favorite team logos to school. How many kids coming back or going school put on that Raider or Laker or Dodger, or any other team hat or jacket? Many. Why? because is the same mentality as a goth. Draw attention because they love their team. Nice try Link but goth or no goth people wear certain fashion styles to draw attention. Or should we get into Fubu?

What I say and what I do are two entirely different things.

I've never hit someone in my life, nor would I ever actually hit my children.

What I would do instead is teach them the difference between receiving attention because of accomplishments in life and receiving attention by dressing like a social outcast.

and what if your lovely young daughters started wearing make-up to school? Not Goth make-up, just normal facial make-up in order to look pretty. What if they caked it on, dressed trampy, and stopped doing well in school?

They're just expressing themselves. Why is it that grades are of the utmost importance, but physical presentation is not?

congrats...you've touched on the clothing that goths wear and pointed out the obvious similarity between wearing a sports uniform of your favorite player and dressing gothic.

Now please...Touch on the need to wear black lipstick, white poweder, and excessive eyeliner. While you're at it, explain the constant need to portray themselves as "depressed" 24/7

and thanks, I thought what I said was a nice try too...

Is basically their freedom to express themselves. They want to wear make up and eyeliner is simply their taste in fashion. They can apply as much as they like or as less as they like it don't matter is basically their freedom to do things. Simple or too complex to understand?

they shouldnt have to worry about their physical appearance to appease anyone....would i personally do it , no.....but its called a learning experience.....they have full expression rights and if they arent hurting themselves or others...it makes no difference to me what they wear or put on their face .

It's not too comlex to understand by any means.

And is it not my freedom to ridicule others as I see fit?

If the best you can come up with is "they have the freedom to do it" then by all means, I would most certainly think I have the freedom to think what I want of them.

What I was looking for was a reason why they do this..."because they can" isn't a reason...it's just what they can and can't do.

by all means...ridicule...do it to your hearts content...if it makes you feel better....then do it...

I didn't say they were doing it to appease anyone. What if your daughters were doing this soley to express themselves and to differentiate themselves from their other "less mature" classmates.

What if your daughters left the house looking like tramps?

try actually imagining the scenario taking place in your real life. Would you really let your daughters walk out of the house looking like that? Or are you just saying that you would because you want your part of the arguement to hold water?
