"The Pianist"
I actually avoided this as i thought (bad trailers and publicity) it was all about tinkling on a piano for a German by a Jew who wants to survive (who would have deep and turgid relationship issues given the state of things and who they are), with the Holocaust now and again appearing in the background.
As it turned out the pianist aspect and the relationship with the German only happened with about 15 minutes to go! The rest was a truly excpetionally well made, deeply emotional and shocking trawl through the barabarity of Nazi rule through the eyes of one of cinema's most tragic figures.
"The Cavern"
The lighting was a bit too dark, it was certainly low budget and the camera angles OTT but otherwise this was a lot of fun with some choice gore and a 'screw you', in your face and flat out nasty ending.
Underrated.
"The Hamiltons"
This was a well acted, well made and very welcome take on the vampire genre. i
It took bits from here and there ("Martin", "Near Dark"😉 but made it its own little gem of a tale.
"Domino"
This was a VERY enjoyable, well made, fun film that blew up the persona of an already fascinating person to 'big up' the film (it is after all just that...a film, not a documentary).
The film got a bum rap and I sure don't know why.
Rouke was great, Knightley had a tough job but did it well (the real Domino WAS very English and slight of frame, so the things Knightley is saddled with as an actress are things that the real Domino also had) and she looked (as always) very sexy thank you.
Scott perhaps let his (MASTERFUL) "True Romance" get in the way at the copy-cat finale but otherwise it was an enjoyable, loud, violent, crazy, fun flick that mixed reality and Hollywood very well.
