Just recently watched Star Trek Into Darkness again. Great movie, though I am confused about one thing. At the end of the movie they try to get Khan's blood so it can be used to save Kirk. Why didn't they just take blood from one of Khan's crew members?

I am still legitimately wondering if there is an answer for this?
