If Kyle Reese had known, he would have fought even harder to both survive himself and to save Sarah Connor.
The real question then becomes WHY didn't JC provide some superior tactical data to his father on the nature of particularly the endgame threat to himself and Sarah (the phone call, the individual rather than collective 'straddle fire' pipe bombing and the problem at the factory where a little quicker action might have allowed Kyle to chuck a pipe bomb at the Terminator while it was down).
Since _survival_ will also increase (extend) the 'exposure to crisis' factors of mutual attraction.
Given there would be some back=forward problems if elder Kyle actually lived long enough to meet younger Kyle and leer-in-passing, the reality is that, in a nation of 270 million, against a machine which is virtually unkillable with hand weapons, there was _no good reason_ for Sarah and Kyle to remain in such tight proximity to the STATE of California.
Not when a longhaul semi could take them a thousand miles or more on the basis of Kyles, ahem, 'wad' of apocalypse fire tinder/toilet paper money.
And in addition to helping with her pregnancy and presumeably setting up a more postive-control situation to finally bag the T-800 on their terms (burmese tiger trap with explosive stakes plus LAW or RPG snipers etc.) Kyle is also the only LOGICAL person to train his young son without exposing him to the equally high risks of Central American mercenary life as Sarah was later forced to.
That part has bothered me for quite awhile longer than the 'picture or words' emphasis on subtle introduction.
