true
but most ppl know which format they like...i always buy widescreen, no matter what...only fullscreen dvd's i own are those that were gifts...so even if there was a fullscreen version on the dvd, I wouldn't watch it.
I see what you're saying, and it would be nice for those that like both versions.
No, its a damn Dvd. People choose which one they prefer, whether they like widescreen or fullscreen better, some dvd's manufactured have both options. All you do is look at the DVD cover and at the top it says "Full Screen -or- WideScreen" or if it doesnt say that, look on the back and it may tell you it has both selections! *Claps*
It's really stupid that two different versions are released. Why don't we evolve from the videotape? DVDs are capable to have both but most just want more money. If I have to choose between the two, which I usually do, I always get widescreen. I have some fullscreen in which I forgot to check the label or it's the only version out.
Putting both versions on the same DVD, and NOT making it a flipper compromises the quality of the disc. It can only hold so many lines of resolution.
So, you either get one disc with WS and a ton of extras, or a flipper with both versions and no extras, which will eventually be followed up by ANOTHER version later.
I think companies should just forget fullscreen altogether.
Unless they are DVD's of certain shows shot with a standard camera (i.e a lot of old TV series are only fullscreen) then fullscreen should be laid to rest.
Fullscreen movies are stupid.
The sooner everyone gets into widescreen the sooner DVD's realise their potential.
Widescreen is slowly becoming as standard as the DVD itself, which is a good thing. TV is becoming more and more widescreen. DVD's have done a lot to promote widescreen.
Fullscreen is a load of crap anyway. Certain widescreen shots simply don't work in fullscreen. Sooner everything becomes widescreen the better.
You guys don't understand that movie companies are trying to push widescreen as the STANDARD format.
TV shows are now being shot in widescreen, look at most modern dramas on the likes of BBC for instance. Even Eastenders has adopted a widescreen format for digital viewers.
If DVD's continue to pander to the fullscreen users, then it isn't pushing widescreen is it? It isn't cheap in my book because I hope the widescreen format becomes standard sooner rather than later.
Just like colour TV replaced black and white, widescreen will replace fullscreen, just as DVDs have pretty much conquered VHS.
period between wide and full screen. Eventually, all TV shows will be broadcast in widescreen. Even standard TV channels are now adding side strips to fullscreen footage (adding black strips to either side of the picture for widescreen TV's.
The lack of fullscreen options when it comes to widescreen movies isn't much of a surprise, it's just a natural progression.
I'm the other way around. Fullscreen either distorts the picture to fit the whole thing in, or cuts off the sides. A LOT of movies are shot using the full camera width, meaning that most movies, when put into fullscreen, lose A LOT of footage.
I'd rather have the black lines and get the full picture, rather than having a bigger, hastily editted picture.
