Actually its an elseworls of superman who is the last son of the earth, ist actually pretty good I liked it. He gets send from his parent on earth to krypton where Jor-el finds him and then sometime later he gets a GL ring. I don'T want to spoil it for you. But if you can get your hands on one of them I'D advise you to buy it, I really enjoyed it and since I really hate Superman this is something that has to be taken into consideration.
I got a copy of superman#147(aug '99) yesterday. It isnt an elseworlds tale, but has clark being mind-controlled to think that he is a GL and for most of the issue, it shows clark as having been brought up on oa with the guardians as parents. Then he teams up with hal jordan to go and stop sinestro.
The next 3 issues all have a similar storyline (with clark as a martian, a thangarian and another race)
theguardians realised that jor-el and lana were about to give birth to a son that would be genetically perfect, and ganthet planned to take him away to oa upon his birth to raise him as one of their own and eventually let him alone lead the GLC (as they were planning to make it independant of the guardians). but then krypton exploded and kalel was sent to earth. Ganthet realised then that earth needed kalel more than the GLC needed him, so they let him stay on earth, even though they dropped in to give him advice from time to time

Actually, an interesting idea - there's been Last Son of Earth (already mentioned), where an Earth-version of Kal becomes a Superman/GL, and there's Speeding Bullets, where Kal is raised by the Waynes and becomes Batman, and then there's In Darkest Knight, where Batman becomes a GL. Mix 'em all together, and see what comes out!
