Age of Empires III

Yay, AoE III discussion thread~...

so what kinds of machines/units
will we see in AoE III? it looked fairly
Medieval to me.. but I suppose
they didnt wanna overly cliche that
since the total war series is riding up on that

The period we're covering is basically
from the end of Age of Kings until the industrial age.

I dont think the industrial age will be
so advanced that it will ruin the funfactor..
they also explain why they chose that timeframe..

The colonial time period is a good
fit for an Age game. Although military
technology has advanced, the fundamentals
of combat haven't changed from the Age of Kings
time period the way they would, say for WWI.

They also touchdown on one of your
concerns about those who are uncomfortable
with the move from the Medieval era :

this time period is probably less familiar
to most folks than the medieval time period
of Age of Kings. Some of the guys on the
project began with the misconception that
this time period was just "guys with guns,"
when in fact the unit diversity of the 1500s-1800s
is even greater than in the centuries before.

[ugh! look how lush and alive the environment
looks.. I hope it runs on my pc -.- ]

Well wouldn't be the first time the screenshots are a lot better than the game itself. But besides that I'm assuming it will have to do with the greats wars in europe between the 1500-1800's (a lot happened in europe in those 3 centuries) I'd like a campaign about the independance of the US from England. the US civil war will be a tad too late I assume also Napoleon will most likely not make an appearance (tho it would be a cool campaign)

hopefully this won't be one of those games where they try to pack too much stuff in, and make it too complex 😬

I hope they'll include some chinese or japanese civil wars... but I guess they might only be sticking to european civs 😬
anyone know what races are definately gonna be in?

Spanish, British and French.

I'm guesssing um what are they called in english? , that counrty right next to Spain they did alot of exploring during this period

Portugal? They didn't exist in AOE II though.

if they want to do a decent job they will in this one. (they might very well include a few oriental civs Sat) prolly also the germans and maybe even an american nation, ofc also indians

the more, the better ✅ well... normally

The game takes place in colonial time in the New World. Spanish, French and English are the confirmed nations. There's about 5 still not confirmed.
Looks awesome and from what i heard its going to play like a dream. It even has the Havok Physics Engine that allows cannonballs to hit the earth first and then roll and kill more people.

Its basically rise of nations 😂

Ya Portugal, I bet my ass they will be in

I wonder how they are gonna do it (cause in some screenshots there are so many damn non-combat units wandering around) with the population limit and controling everything.

The ages go from 1500 to 1850. The main idea for AoE 3 is that you have a home city that gains experience and builds up while your playing. I think you build up the city by yourself and the NPC's flock automacitally like in SimCity. You get to customize and stuff. But the main point of the home city is that its your economic support while you colonize the New World.

yea prolly gonna be something like that

I thought it was going to (for a majority of the traditional play) mimic AoE 2 Expansion... hunt, fish, log, harvest, mine.. build structures, create units, flip through the ages.. I think if they took any of that out it really wouldnt be AoE

I don't know, it looks far bigger than that. I'm not sure whether or not I'll get it since I may be a huge AoE fan, but they'll all be using guns which is less traditional and the warfare won't be as good. It'd be a bit more difficult to formulate actual strategies.

I think you will just have to build like mines and so forth and the comp will generate the workers (you might still have to pay gold or food or whatever for more workers) kinda like Caesar

i notice how often in these screenshots u can see the horizon as far back as possible yet in the real game even after u use the no fog cheats you can only see so far, yet in these screenshots u see for miles upon miles in the distance

You dont have to build mines or any other drop-off centres. YOu create a villiager and send him to the resource, its automatically goes the reserve.
Its similar to original but somewhat different because of the inclusion of the home city in the Old World while your colonizing the new world. So its sort of your economic centre.
Its not like Rise of Nations at all.
