Why is it no matter what i do or say it has no affect but to make things worse!

should i give up! Or keep trying!?!

Okay i have this friend...who i love deeply and he is going through a bad patch right now! I gave him some advice but it seems like he isn't listening! I tried to make him see things in a different light but he is sooo stubborn and set in his ways that i ended up crying all night!
