Arrogance - a definition and a philosphical response

Are you saying you possess any knowledge at all since you interpret everything merely as opinions/interpretations?

Common knowledge? Weren' t there only opinions/interpretations?

YES, but some opinions/interpretations are shared by some people.

Ou Be Low hoo - you are brilliant! It is INDEED merely a personality or a trait - nothing else. "My" so-called arrogance is only good or bad in "Your" opinion.

I define personality as from experience, mimicry, and gene. These are my own discoveries.

To generalise means to say "All", but I'm saying "Most".

And surely as an art historian you must have read, as I have, in every book on the history of Western Art, that Michelangelo is regarded as the greatest artist ever.

🙄

Philo, I can take your philosophical theories, because that’s all they are, theories. Theories that will never, and can never, be proven or discredited. That is the beauty of philosophy, there is no wrong or right answer, if you argue long enough, people will ignore you or believe you.

What I take offence to is your belittling of others and they way you continually change positions to support your arguments. You quote Nietzsche and others to support some of your theories then criticize others for doing the same.

You lavish praise on those that agree with you and chide and disrespect those that challenge you.

You hold your Internet I.Q scores and “High IQ societies membership certificates” up to show your genius, then back peddle and say that they mean nothing. You infer that you are a genius, and then say that you never claimed to be a genius.

“Seriously, what is wrong with arrogance? Isn't it just an expression of one's own strong beliefs and passions?” No, that would be confidence; arrogance is trying to act in a superior manner usually based in insecurity. “Just imagine how pathetic the world would have been if everyone was just so scared to offend others or to feel superior over their competitors. All truly great things came into the world by violent, remorseless revolutions!” tell that to Martin Luther King or Ghandi.

You then imply your own greatness by saying, “That's the difference between greatness and goodness. Greatness is to follow your own heart, form your own original, unique thoughts, art, etc. without having being influenced by someone else. We should strive to be original.”

Greatness is a concept you understand (and apparently try to achieve) yet the concept of arrogance is ultimately meaningless to you.

Greatness is not achieved through the subjugation of others, childish antics or behaviour or the belittlement of others seeking knowledge. Nor is greatness achieved by perceived personal value. Greatness is bestowed onto the shoulders and names of those that others find (or perceive to be) worthy of that honour.

You are a walking cliché. From the choices of your favourite movies or your musical and artistic preferences to your inability to conceive that people other than you might have a clue as to what is going on around them. You exhibit the clichéd existence that a teenager or young adult tries to emulate as they seek out their own voice as an intelligent academic, yet fall flat on their face as they eventually realize that they live a cookie-cutter existence.

So I am done with you, your ratings and your childish behaviour. It is very sad that you feel the need to “prove” yourself worthy of other’s respect and admiration as well as your own.

hehe.. inverted your sig to see if the initial color inversion would cause any original picture data to be lost. You must've done it with photoshop

I didn't do it with photoshop, but with Microsoft Paint. And what is your point?

Am I not allowed to have my favourite movies??? Does that make me a cliche? Or are you implying that my favourite movies must be the same as yours? What are you trying to say?

Oh, there was a point to this thread? you basically run your mouth over everyone and selectively decide who is fit to argue with you.. and if they dont agree with you in the long run you discredit them too.. so what is really the point?

Well, you wield thunder and steel, so obviously you're not fit for philosophical arguing.

lol, I think that south african heat is taking its toll on ya.. might wanna invest in a good old fashioned electric fan.

To get sortof back on topic, it is just plain silly to discredit someones opinion with something as rediculous as "you're an idiot" I mean.. that has nothing to do with the price of tea in china.. or south africa / timbuktu.. all opinions should be valued as long as they state a purpose
(which here would be discusing arrogance and the perception thereof). Even if someone knows nothing about something I may take heavy interest in, and they feel the need to comment.. I will listen as long as its not something as rediculous as "just because".. I feel thats the most logical approach to anything in life.

🤣 Gotta give you this - you have a great sense of humor!
