Don't you want a better life for your kids and yourself?
tv controls peoples way of thinking and thats the way it is....im guilty of taking tv seriously too but ive learned from my mistakes and its about time everyone else does

This is what we risk with freedom of speach. I wouldnt go as far to say that T.v controls peoples lives, influence yeah. It really is no big deal. Taking away t.v and media would not change the naiveness and gullability of people.

people would be lost without tv

I watch way too much of it I wish we had the radio like the good old times then you can do something while you listen to the radio. And not just stare into the tv like a dummy!JM

Then turn it off! Watching T.V. is a choice. You choose to sit there like a dummy.

Television is basically entertainment.

I disagree.

I dont see News as entertainment - unless you believe war and dying is amusing.

I think WDs point, Lil, is that what people get out of that is more a presented feeling of knowledge from around the world that makes them feel satisfied, as opposed to the GENUINE newsgathering and learning you would get from the other sources he is quoting.

So he was saying that it is not really News you get on the tv. I don't necessarily agree, but I can see his point- the way tv news is presented, it often seems more like voyeurism than reportage.

My fave paragraph on that article -

America can never be free again, unless Americans can first free their minds from the government's grip, and that grip is exerted through the television. Just get off the couch and put a sledgehammer right through the screen. Don't worry, it won't explode. That's one of the many things that only happens on TV.

Its actually interesting how much shit are people ed and they still believe it. I just took 6 books out of the library on American Foregin Policy in Latin America and Middle East - and im surprised at what Americans have written about America's way of dealing with things - too bad many others dont read it.

I didn't say News were entertainment. My prime aim is what TV is today. Is basically entertainment. There are far more sitcoms, cartoons, matinee, gossip, talk shows, cooking, reality tv, and sports events shows than News. The only time News takes over TV is when a disaster happens. All channels stop their schedule programs to report the events. And notice that the network that offers the most coverage gets the higher ratings. So basically TV is about entertainment and Ratings.

Which is sad because disasters are happening every single day every hour of the day... but what you gonna do.

I responded to your quote the way you wrote it ''TV is basically entertainment, library is for learning and newspapers for information''

Its very simple and bold - which is how i took it.

tv is for entertainment yes but you sure thats all its for??... because of tv most people are fat and lazy........shall we go and do some exercise and play some sports???....nah i wanna watch my favourtie show on tv tonite because its that important to me.......thats the power of tv..
people on here say that watching tv is a choice...yes it is but the thing is most people pick the wrong choice by watching this hypnotist in the corner of the room because it has a hold on you...it becomes addictive....we have all experienced it...it can turn your mind to mush

What? dean people are not fat because of the power of TV. People are fat because they don't have a proper nutrition or a balance diet. Yes, I could accept the little conspiracy theory of fast food restaurants advertising on TV and making people go hungry. But to lay the problem of obesity on TV...nah! Is TV addictive? of course but so are many things like the internet as an example. TV networks are only interested in ratings and sponsors nothing more.

I don't watch the news on tv, ever. It's boring, misinformed and biased. It's for this reason I pay no attention to any current events of any sort.

I dont even have a TV at university - i kinda like it this way - no crappy reality shows...ugh.

TV is entertaining. The news can be entertaining in a dark way, a "what's going to happen next?" knida way. Especially with the news channels, "Lets go live to Bob who's at the scene as this situstion unfolds...." I sat watching as the Election results come in, as the Tsunami death toll rises, as the Russian school siege panned out, as the Twin Towers fell, as the Ukranians protested; because I wanted to see what would happen next.

TV reaches over 90% of people in UK, it is thee way for people to try to influence others. It's best way to tell people that "of course there are WMDs", "Bush is a fool", "Blair is a lapdog", "It's all the fault of the French", "trust us, we're great, we're your friend".

Because of it's huge audience, TV can undoubtedly be used as a weapon.

Too many reality shows on TV. It's lost its touch. I don't watch anything except 24 and Smallville.

Who cares about the news anyway? Why watch news channels when you could watch Toonami or Scuzz or some movie or playing computer games. News doesnt concern indivduals only cities and countries in general. If gun crime is increasing and you get shot while your out your dead, why it be now or 100 years time it doesnt matter and you won't think you were too young to be dead or I didnt want to die coz you'd be dead and you can't think anything coz ya dead. Death is cool coz you dont have to think about anything coz ya cant think coz ya dead.

😕

the only reason{or atleast the greatest} americans are still proud to be americans and are not sick enough to vomit at the name of america is because of television, in the political world it is indeed the greatest weapon.

The most powerful weapons of them all!!! sounds like an Austin Powers storyline. It doesnt kill people, or hurt people fatally or even physically wound people, so how is it a weapon?

yea course the media is a bigger weapon than the atom bomb, Winston Churchill, Clinton, kerdy, bush, tony Blair every won knows it they use it too there advantage its called propaganda... media controls the way we think and act!!! it splits relationships up, it kills peoples careers, it builds public opinion... Hitler rallied a whole nation by controlling the way they thought threw media.. it s just a simple fact!!

So TV and media stuff sureley is a third-party, non-harmful weapon.
